Bridge takes toll on Christie

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's ratings feel a whopping 11 points since the bridge scandal.
But more importantly -- his standing dropped a whopping 35% among Democrats and 20% among independents -- the kind of crossover support he'll need to win the White House in 2016.
Of course, this will be well in the past in 2016 (water under the bridge) -- but it shows how quickly crossover support can disappear with a poorly handled controversy.

The accusations from the Mayor of Hoboken about how her
devastated city got screwed out of Sandy money (because
she would not approve one of Christie's pet development
projects) is even more scandalous, IMO. The only thing
I ever liked about Christie was how he handled Sandy.

village.. i see what you're saying.. but..
so far as I know, the Hoboken mayor's allegations are just that..allegations..let's see how it plays out..
I'm not that big a Christie fan, but so far he's head and shoulders above anyone else the republicans might offer up as a 2016 candidate..
a campaign by him against any of the democrats would at least be fun to cover..

seems like the mayor of hobroken maybe facing perjury charges.
she can't keep her stories straight. she needs to work on that. if she hopes to be a major player in the democrat party. plus, people within her party (state and local) are doubting her claims.
the allegations will go away and bridgegate will go all partisan which hunt.

She wasn't *charged* with perjury. Somebody's *lawyer* accused her of it. Didn't you read the story? You could have read the story about 20 times -- the same story -- since all those rightwingnut websites republished it from the original site.
I don't appreciate having had to chase down a piece of trash. I don't have the time for it. Nobody does. Please do us the courtesy next time of posting a link plus corroboration.

I don't think Mayor Dawn Zimmer (an accidental politician) wants
to be a major player in the Democratic party. I think she wants justice. Other towns with far less damage got more money.
Her journal is very damning and she told others about this
extortion attempt at the time.
In NJ/NY, Bridgegate/Sandygate are huge stories that are not

And it's hardly a...
"which (sic) hunt."
Remember, there was a smoking gun and Christie admitted as much by firing staffers involved in the intentional lane closures.

bless your little heart grateful. its filled with such angry and hate.
did you feel better after that rant?
you need to find better ways of releasing all that. find a hobby. get some sunlight and fresh air.
brush up on your reading skillz. who said anything about being *charged* with perjury?
i would much appreciate if you would read my posts before you rant/comment. liberal trickeration is to twist the words and posts of right leaning posters in order to confuse our casual readers.

Has to make you think, grateful...
if that's a cue to another identity of one of our other posters here, doesn't it?

more liberal tickeration. liberals will never admit the are wrong.
instead they try to turn the tables and play victim.

turn the tables and play victim.
Stealing con's favorite thing to be!
Me! Me! I'm the victim!!! Attack me!!
Unhappy trolls are so bitter.

And the real victim...
is Christie, right con?
He's a victim because his staff got caught -- and he's under investigation.

"his staff got caught" key point. while the liberal media wants to destroy a potential roadblock to the anointment of saint hillary-the rest of america sees this as nothing more than a politics as usually local story.
while trolls egregiously obsessively follow my every post, they respond with typical wanker trollism. weak at best.
since obsessive trolls indubitably turn into stalker trolls, i will keep my pets inside in case y'all try to go all alex west on me.

The facts are against con...
The poll numbers for Christie's support among Democrats and Independents have imploded since the bridge scandal. He needed crossover votes be a viable candidate.
He's now running third among Republicans (behind Paul Ryan and Jeb Bush) as the GOP's preferred nominee.
And the scandal is hurting Christie at home with distractions and a massive drain on his political capital.

Latest polls show...
Chris Christie (R) now running as much as 21 points behind Hillary Clinton (D) in hypothetical 2016 match up.
Three separate polls mentioned in the article show Christie's electability collapsing.
Posted - 2/13/2014 1:16:44 PM | show profile | flag this post
I saw the same polls
But (FWIW, IMO) I think Christie can close that gap in the next year. Barring some 'Mitt Romney like tape recording' surfacing. ('Close the damn bridge!! Cancel Christmas, Release the Kraken, and put the boy prostitute on my bar bill'!!)
Why?? Because the Repubs are in desperate need of a moderate who even has even a snowball's chance in hell of going up against She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. (And at this point I heard Hell and Atlanta are still colder than the Olympics, but I digress)
It's pretty bad when someone like Christie or even Jeb Bush may be the GOP's only chances. (Ya gotta love the Jon Stewart observation that Christie could appeal to the Republican base; "Now, there's a guy who knows how to clog a border.")
And before someone jumps on me or etaoin for the "It's way too early..." Well of course you're right. And dead wrong. When it comes to the WH race, it's never too early. I would remind you of this:
"It was during his campaign for the United States Senate that he first made a speech that received nationwide attention; he gave the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. and stated "there is not a liberal America and a conservative America — there is the United States of America". Obama began to run for president just three years after that speech." (Wiki)
You'll neeeeever guess what happened.....

His two biggest problems...
are a loss of momentum and failing to address the problem.
He's losing momentum a lot faster than I would have guessed. And he seems to be ignoring the bridge issue like John Kerry ignored the Swift Boat issue.
His best hope is to let the Rand Paul and Ted Cruz candidates fight it out and split the TEA Party vote in the Primaries and take his chances defeating any other moderate who gets into the race.

"seems to be ignoring the bridge issue"
How many more hours does Gov. Christie have to spend on tv and radio talking this nontroversy?
You should get out from under bridge more...

Sorry. There was a smoking gun. He fired staffers for abuse of power.
But keep ignoring the fact that he's plummeting in the polls, cruzo.
Keep holding out for that Romney landslide!

non-controversy? this is in the papers here almost every day
