Cheney Calls it Quits

So Liz Cheney is calling off her Senate bid.
She says it's because of health reasons. Seems an examination of her campaign was unable to turn up a pulse -- as she trailed by 50 points in the polls:

Classy as always
Way to go etaoin. Don't even wait to find out which child is sick or what the problem may be, just make your cute comments. You truly are a real piece of work.

Haters gotta hate..
This is the response we expect from the left-
Liz Cheney bails on her Senate bid, just like her dad's first heart bailed on him-Gawker
I can't believe Gawker is a news source for posters here.
You stay classy Dems!

the Cheney campaign was a trainwreck from the git-go. She destroyed a family friendship with Enzi, caused friction within her own family over gay bashing her own sister and now using one of her children as an excuse to quit!
All of it's shameful.
Look, if her daughter really is sick, I hope she gets better.
But the excuse of "spending time with my family" or health issues have long been a cop out, a sad way for politicians who realized they didn't stand a chance of winning, to get out of a race while trying to save face.

you're one to talk about Gawker -- a pop-culture blog -- after citing infowars repeatedly as a source (while using your cruzo handle).
Look, politics is a tough game. And Karma is a bitch.
Like I said, hope her daughter gets better soon. But as public as her family's health issues have been, it's surprising she's being extremely vague about this case.

etaoin, here is a thought
How about waiting to find out if her daughter is sick BEFORE making your smartass comments? No way, that would require a little class and thoughtfulness on your part. Something no republican can ever hope to get from you.

Want to talk classless, blacked?
How about Liz Cheney's treatment of her sister? Want to talk about a sickness in the family -- start with Liz and the way she stabbed her sister Mary in the back all in the name of winning votes.
Her daughter may or may not be ill.
But the fact is, Cheney's campaign was on life support for weeks. And it's pretty sick -- and classless -- of Liz to blame a sick daughter for her decision to leave the race.

the daughter may be sick..hope she gets well..
but i suspect it may not be the only reason she pulled out.. coulda had something to do with the latest polls..which showed mike enzi with 56 per cent..cheney with 17 percent..

what? no black babies in the cheney family libs can bully and make fun of?
stabbed in the back? if this was true than liberals would be cheering and lining up to vote for liz.
no reason to created this thread other than to continue the republican bashing that this board is known for.

I think that tells me all I need to know about you, eatoin
So it is "And it's pretty sick -- and classless -- " for a mother to decide that the health of her children is more important than running for political office. And this comes from someone who claims to be concerned about the health of Americans, especially women. I have been right about you all along, sadly.

And I think your posts here...
blacked, tell me a lot about you.
Though you claim to be independent, you sure appear to be an apologist for Republicans and TEA Party insurgents in particular.
You also seem to be pretty naive about politics -- taking Liz Cheney at her word and discounting the fact that polls showed her more than 50 points back in the primary.
If not, and if her kid IS sick, then defending, as you are, a woman who uses a sick child as a face-saving way out of a losing political campaign -- I have to ask who is REALLY classless and sick?
It sure ain't me.

Exactly what is wrong with the child? Her statement said it was a serious medical condition, so I guessing we are not talking flu here. So until I find out exactly what how serious the condition is I will hold my judgement on whether her motive is politically based or her love of her child. I would do this for anyone, republican or democrat. But you are incapable of any human consideration or compassion when it comes to republicans, and this just proves that point.
For you it is all politics, everything else pales in comparison. That is a sad way to go through life.

According to the Casper Star-Tribune today, one of her children has Type 1 diabetes.
Posted - 1/6/2014 3:34:24 PM | show profile | flag this post
Thanks for that. I was hoping it was not a terminal situation. Type 1 diabetes is a very serious condition but it is treatable. The first few months after diagnosis are critical as the medical team will work to balance her insulin levels. It is a life changer for sure.

As someone who's family is also touched...
by diabetes...I do wish the child well. It is a chronic, but manageable disease.
It has not stopped Sonia Sotomayor from serving on the Supreme Court nor Jay Cutler from quarterbacking for Vanderbilt and later the Chicago Bears.
It is something I seriously and sincerely hope her daughter manages it successfully.
But, again the real sickness here is Liz Cheney hiding behind a sick child to save face for a failing campaign.

Sick kids or not
...she proved she wasn't the only Dick in the family.
I don't like bad people, whether they have sick kids or not. Let's hope the child finds her health, and Liz finds her soul. Though I 'spect one has a far better chance of happening than the other.

You're not the only one, VTex...
who likes to see good people triumph over bad ones.
Republicans greeted Sen. Enzi on his first appearance on the Senate floor after the announcement with smiles and high-fives:

Even modern-day Senate Republicans have some scruples and some taste.

Did ya ever think...
That maybe, just maybe, ending her political career in order to take care of her child is a sign she has got a soul? No. Of course not. She is a republican (strike one), a Cheney (strike two), and a "tea-partier" (strike three). Something tells me a Kennedy deciding to forgo politics to care for a child would be nominated for Mother of the Year and be on the cover of the "O" magazine. Gotta love those double standards.
I did find it a little ironic that a devoted atheist would claim she has no soul. I thought that was one of the basic points, that none of us has a soul. I hold out hope for you VTexan.
As far as etaoin, you are beyond hope.

Surely no one posting here is naive enough to think Liz is "ending her political career" with her withdrawl from a race she was badly losing. Such over the top faux outrage is unbecoming a professional journalist.
Posted - 1/8/2014 1:30:28 PM | show profile | flag this post
she's not "ending her political career" -- she's trying to salvage it and run for something else later on.
Heck, her father had a freakin' heart attack while running for Congress -- had another one right after the 2000 election.
She's hiding behind her kid's illness so she doesn't have to admit -- on the record -- that she's bailing because she's 50-points behind in the polls.
As far as a soul -- don't count on her having much of one. You don't have to look any farther than the way she treated her sister. And when you're done looking at that, you can understand how she'd use her kid to save face.

I've never ever EVER been an Atheist. In my opinion the same vanity that infuses some folks with surety that they know God's exact will...is the same vanity which some others--Atheists--claim to know there absolutely isn't a God.
I've always said I was Agnostic and don't presume to know things I can't possibly know.
Referencing your other points, I know several Republicans with what I'm thinking of as a soul (a genuine person, and one who makes the world a better place by being here). So being a Republican isn't in and of itself a soul-sucking actuality.
She being a Cheney is no strike against her other than she pretty well behaves like a Cheney. That's a VERY big strike.
She being "tea-partier" isn't a big strike against her other than the way she manifests it, which is of a nasty, spiteful "those Democrats are crazy, horrible people" variety.
So she warrants 2 out of 3 possible strikes. And I stand by my original statement. She's an awful person; hope her kid gets better, and I laugh at the fact that she's withdrawn from the race. Another vainglorious attempt from a scion of an awful, awful person now sitting on the ash heap of history. I'm cool wit dat.

"ending her political career" was just a tad over the top don't you think?
I'll remind you of that the next time she leaves her child behind so she can fly over six states (in one direction) to appear on Chris Wallace's Sunday morning show....and another five states in another direction to speak at a TeaBagger convention.
IF...big IF...her child's health is her sole reason to drop out, I have new found respect for her. IF on the other hand it's just another use of the classic 'family comes first' defense to avoid a humiliating defeat, I'm not surprised.
I also noticed blacked that your 'three strikes' didn't include her hatred of gays; which is ironic since that was the most un-Christian thing about her--IMO.

Surely you understand the difference in time commitment between running a political campaign and appearing weekly on a TV show. There is no comparison between one day a week for maybe 18 hours total versus the seven day week full time grind a politician faces.
I'm glad you are at least able to accept the possibility that her motive is driven not by the status of her campaign but by her love of her child. Nice to see at least one other person can see past partisan politics.
I did not follow her campaign, I mean why would I since I don't live in her district? I was not aware she hated gays, I do find that surprising considering her sister is gay. I do know she is opposed to gay marriage but the two are not the same thing. Perhaps she has said other things that make you feel she hates gays, like I said I did not follow her campaign.
