While I'm ambivalent concerning the results

I personally prefer the traditional definition of marriage with civil unions or "domestic partnerships" to handle the gay "marriage" situation. But I'm really astounded at the reasoning behind the decision...that the provisions of the Constitution had no bearing but the case was decided on the mood of the electorate. That and the "clairvoyance" of the justices in determining that some opponents are bigots.

Is this why our Founders are spinning in their graves?

That's why we have the SCOTUS

Like it or not, love it or not, disagree with the decisions all you want, but personally, IMO only, I have had it up to the proverbial "HERE", with the Founding Fathers "spinning in their graves" garbage.

It's 2013 for chrissakes, not 1789. "the gay "marriage" situation"?? Really?? it's not a "situation" damnit, it's a fact of life. It's American citizens choosing their own loves and lifestyle. I thought 'leave us alone' was a backbone of conservative philosophy. Unless of course it involves vaginas or gays.

Question: Do you think the Founding Fathers are "spinning in their graves" over that whole 'we can't buy and sell people like horses anymore?

I'm so pleased that the court ruled in favor of equal rights to

-- surviving spouse benefits
-- domestic partner benefits
-- various tax credits related to child care
-- the estate tax exemption on inheritances from a partner
-- family leave to care for a partner
-- COBRA health care coverage for a partner
-- bereavement leave on the death of a partner
-- visitation rights in hospitals and nursing facilities
-- equitable asset division upon divorce

among other things. We take so much for granted that our fellow citizens could not have until today -- in 2013.

I think I've finally figured you out

You just CANNOT STAND to think of your paradigm (leftists and Democrats) as on a moral plane inferior to that of conservatives and Republicans. Therefore you MUST try to denigrate those on the right (it's tempting to say those who are right) least in your own mind...reduce their status.

That appears to be why everything you say is filled with personal attacks...and why everything is coupled to what you perceive to be some sort of comparison that elevates your status at the expense of others.

It must be hell to live your whole life trying to make yourself believe you're superior to everyone around you...and hurling ad hominem and insults when you perceive that you've failed. It's also a logical explanation for your constant arrogance and imperiousness.

I know someone else who doesn't care...

me. You're like an annoying squeak in a staircase. You get used to it and walk right over it without paying attention.

"You're like an annoying squeak in a staircase."

"You get used to it and walk right over it without paying attention."

Hmmmmmm, I don't know. Why not fix it?

Just walking over it would be like not passing a budget and forcing a sequester that damages America's economy and forces thousands of furloughs and layoffs and military cutbacks unnecessarily.

Well I do "care", sort of...

cruise? Do I actually think you're "on a moral plane inferior" to others?? Man, I think my dog is on a higher moral plane than you are. The flea I picked off the dog today is on a higher moral plane than you are. The tissue stuffed with the flea is on a higher moral plane than you are. The garbage can where I threw the tissue.........

In the inane "Where is Snowden" thread,I just touched upon the tip of the iceberg of your insanity ("'Obama is a Socialist—and shares characteristics of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. He caused the Great Economic Recession of 2008 before he entered the WH. Obama and Jimmy Carter are to blame for the Housing Default Crisis. Returning Vets with PTSD "may be trying to game the system". "the objective of a military rifle is NOT to kill but to wound". And we'll keep talking about the infamous IRS Commissioner 157 visits which turned out to be 11..."Odumbo a few days ago said something about bring 5,000 Syrian refugees here") And that was in response to your absolute insane ludicrous demented belief that somehow the whole 'Snowden/NSA Scandal is another Obama conspiracy....

And you have the nerve to sneer (no other word for it) about the "gay "marriage" situation."?? "the provisions of the Constitution had no bearing but the case"....Exactly WHERE is marriage mentioned in the Constitution??

"some opponents are bigots." Ya think???

Regarding DOMA defeat

...a Facebook friend posted this:
"Just checked. In wake of Supreme Court ruling, my heterosexual marriage is still valid, still strong. Will update as needed."

I feel threatened.

You feel threatened? I feel threatened. I can just feel the gays a mile down the road threatening my marriage. Is this how the dinosaurs felt when they looked up..."Holy Crap Fred. Comet!!"

You know nothing is safe anymore when cruise actually sounds safe next to BatShit-Crazy-YouKnowWho. I know that's like comparing a turd ball with a cowpie; but you really have to listen to this...just give it a minute or two.

"They denied equal protection to every American in the United States" (as opposed to Americans elsewhere??) "You see what the Supreme Court is saying is they're asserting the supremacy of the Court over all three branches of government." (Just let that one roll over your tongue for a minute) See? They're saying "We have a SUPREME Court" (Who do these people think they are anyway?? The Supreme Court??)

Since I really don't feel like sticking my head into the microwave oven right now, I'll wait until tomorrow to read Palin's reaction, and of course Mr. Fidelity Newt, and the whole Fox clan. Then I'll stick in cruise on the Stupidity Meter of one to ten.

In the meantime, I have a marriage to protect. Those faggots are threatening me. Donchaknow.

Went to the Stonewall Inn last night for a celebratory rally
outside. Everyone was overjoyed. Edie Windsor, who brought
the case to the Supreme Court, spoke eloquently. After she
finished the crowd roared and chanted "Edie, Edie, Edie"

while this will be the being of the end of marriage- see what has followed gay marriage in other countries- i understand why some would cheer.

whats coming next is more attacks from the left on religious rights and freedoms .

scotus has blocked several attempts by the obama regime to limit religious rights and freedoms- the most damaging attacks are yet to come.

it's just tv folks Posted - 6/27/2013 2:24:55 PM | show profile | flag this post

"DOMA ruled unconstitutional"???

No, that is a gross oversimplification. The ONLY part of DOMA that was altered was Section 3, which defines "marriage" and "spouse."

At present, no other part of the Act was affected and that means states may or may not consider same-gender marriages from other states or jurisdictions as valid, employers are free to determine how benefits are defined and disbursed, etc.

I would, however, expect a follow-on action seeking to invalidate Section 2 using the newly-revised Section 3 as justification. Or an action to nullify the entire DOMA.

yes, you can look forward to that effort..

more to the point, you can look forward to it succeeding..and probably fairly quickly now..
