Mesrey's worked as a book editor and magazine editor, penning features and op-eds in Hour Detroit, Detroit Home, and the Detroit Free Press. He's also the editor of Willie Horton's autobiography, "The People's Champion."

Mesrey has consulted on several notable projects, including the 2006 Emmy Award-winning documentary about historic Tiger Stadium, "Stranded at the Corner." He's also edited copy at The Detroit News and served as a consultant to renowned lexicographer Bryan A. Garner on the third edition of "Garner's Modern American Usage."
