"Global warming science" in a tailspin
Posted - 12/19/2013 10:46:49 AM | show profile | flag this post
It is a fact that the "scientific evidence" of "global warming" is not very convincing and those who are skeptical have made serious inroads into the IPCC's narrative.
Some who slavishly cling to the discredited climate change theories are not happy about that.
Reddit has banned climate change skeptics from posting on their science forum...and has the balls to ask why more sites haven't followed suit.
When a position is tenuous, at best, or plainly unsupportable one way to suppress dissent is to prevent the dissemination of contradictory comments or evidence.

Reddit was right...
"Skeptics" are really "trolls."
The science in support of global climate change is overwhelming.
Notice that part of the reason Reddit banned the trolls was because they refused to provide any science to back up their claims.
Posted - 12/19/2013 11:38:26 AM | show profile | flag this post
FYI, the ban isn't new. It began more than a year ago.
Ready why, and what the result has been, from a moderator of Reddit's science forum:
"After some time interacting with the regular denier posters, it became clear that they could not or would not improve their demeanor. These problematic users were not the common “internet trolls” looking to have a little fun upsetting people. Such users are practically the norm on reddit. These people were true believers, blind to the fact that their arguments were hopelessly flawed, the result of cherry-picked data and conspiratorial thinking. They had no idea that the smart-sounding talking points from their preferred climate blog were, even to a casual climate science observer, plainly wrong. They were completely enamored by the emotionally charged and rhetoric-based arguments of pundits on talk radio and Fox News. ...
"Over and over, solid peer-reviewed science was insulted as corrupt, while blog posts from fossil-fuel-funded groups were cited as objective fact. Worst of all, they didn’t even get the irony of quoting oil-funded blogs that called university scientists biased.
"The end result was a disservice to science and to rational exploration, not to mention the scholarly audience we are proud to have cultivated. When 97 percent of climate scientists agree that man is changing the climate, we would hope the comments would at least acknowledge if not reflect such widespread consensus. Since that was not the case, we needed more than just an ad hoc approach to correct the situation. ...
"We discovered that the disruptive faction that bombarded climate change posts was actually substantially smaller than it had seemed. Just a small handful of people ran all of the most offensive accounts. What looked like a substantial group of objective skeptics to the outside observer was actually just a few bitter and biased posters with more opinions than evidence.
"Negating the ability of this misguided group to post to the forum quickly resulted in a change in the culture within the comments. Where once there were personal insults and bitter accusations, there is now discussion of the relevant aspects of the research. Instead of (almost comically) paranoid and delusional conspiracy theories, we have knowledgeable users explaining complicated concepts to non-scientists who are simply interested in understanding the research. While we won’t claim /r/science is perfect, users seem happy with the changes made."

"The science in support of global climate change
Actually, it isn't. That's why the IPCC suck-ups are trying so hard to prevent those with the facts from disseminating the truth.

Yet you've never been able...
to link to a single, impartial source that backs up that claim, cruzo.
In all the years on this site, not once.
Just opinion and hyperbole.

What you really mean to say is that
you've never been able to accept an impartial source...only those who march in lockstep with the IPCC policy wonks...who are NOT scientists.

Your personal opinion of global warming is not the topic of this thread, which you started.
The topic at hand -- the topic that you posted yourself -- is Reddit's science blog eliminating troll comments for their high incendiary intent and lack of factual content.

Please stay out of this. It doesn't concern you.

In other words....
No....belay that...all of Grateful's good words should be enough.
If you're frustrated at a certain website not posting your constant craziness--which is their right--then stop whining about it and a find a wingnuts website that will.
I suggest the Daily Caller. Call it home.

More than 2,000 scientists from 154 countries typically participate in the IPCC process. Scientists are independently nominated for participation in the Panel by their own governments. The fields of Earth system science, meteorology, ecology, economics, engineering, the social sciences and many more are represented.
Or in cruiser math - 0
Wrong again brave toothless warrior!

I give him an opportunity..
to back up his claim with an independent source -- and nothing.
How many years and not a single source to support his claim on global climate change?
C'mon, cruzo...the years of silence speaks volumes.

The "silence" is
you not hearing the IPCC bullsh*t regurgitated to you. I've given you plent of scientific evidence...which you and your ilk summarily reject.
And, no, I'm not going to post it again. I've got better things to do.
Pay attention next time.

" I've got better things to do"
No you don't. You have plent of time to be egregious.
I want to try a cruiserism style post.
"You don't know what you're talking about dearie. The evidence supporting global warming is overwhelming and convincing. You are simply regurgitating right wing talking points. Your argument is specious and incorrect pal."
WOW! That was indubitably plent of fun!!!

you've never posted a single link to any SCIENTIFIC research to back up your claim -- just to Heartland Institute talking points and articles and opinion pieces from the right wing media.
How about some actual scientific studies sometime?
You not linked to a single one in all these years.
Posted - 12/21/2013 1:03:58 AM | show profile | flag this post
I don't know where you get "all these years"
You former sandbox people haven't been here that long. I've been here much longer but was virtually inactive until I started posting in Current Events.
But I've posted PLENTY of scientific material. It's just not IPCC propaganda...it's not what you want to hear...not what you want to confront. Therefore you try to marginalize and trivialize it with your ad hominem and personal attacks on me and anyone who disagrees with the IPCC.
You people have your heads in the sand.

*** You people have your heads in the sand. ***
It has been scientifically proven that things buried in sand stay much cooler, globally speaking, than those left out in sunlight.

Two schools on climate change...
Scientists, and conservatives. One group uses objective information from research and record keeping over decades, the other group refuses to believe because Al Gore supports it. If you are an intelligent, educated person you are concerned about climate change. All the answers aren't there yet but we know that it needs to be investigated further and we should be alarmed at what we already know. If you are an uneducated, conservative who has your head either buried in the sand or halfway up your ass, you will keep denying it until the last polar bear has been drowned as the arctic ice completely disappears. This isn't "Duck Dynasty." This is real life. If you don't have the ability to actually reason out an opinion based on scientific information, go back to watching the Kardashians.

Is there still ice at the pole? Another global warming prediction that didn't come true.

In fact, the Arctic is completely iced over
and that occurred a month ahead of schedule.
Relying on a BBC report that the Arctic would ice-free in summer by 2013, 20 sailing yachts tried to sail the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Now all 20 are stuck in the ice and must wait for a Canadian icebreaker to free them. The Northwest Passage has been blocked by pack ice all year and now an unbroken sheet of ice covers an area of more than a half-million square miles, from the Canadian islands to the Russian shore.
Posted - 12/23/2013 11:45:06 AM | show profile | flag this post
In Fact, It's Idubitably NOT Iced Over!
Not according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center
"Arctic sea ice continued to expand during November, gaining 2.24 million square kilometers (865,000 square miles) of ice since the beginning of the month. Sea ice extent for November averaged 10.24 million square kilometers (3.95 million square miles). This is 750,000 square kilometers (290,000 square miles) below the 1981 to 2010 average extent and is the 6th lowest November extent in the 35-year satellite data record
But what do leftist scientists know about ice? Right cruiser?

I can't make you believe what you refuse to believe
There's no sense in me wasting my time.

"There's no sense in me wasting my time"
Wasting your time when the science you dispute is overwhelming and supported by empirical evidence doesn't make a lot of sense.
But when has that stopped you?
Posted - 12/23/2013 1:48:17 PM | show profile | flag this post
"overwhelming and supported by empirical evidence "
The only thing that's overwhelming is you slavishly clinging to the IPCC bullsh*t. The empirical evidence contradicts the IPCC.
But I cannot make you believe what you refuse to believe.
