I remember Ted Koppel's ballsey on-air statement when he left "Nightline" urging viewers to keep supporting the show saying that if they didn't--(paraphrasing)
'the network would probably put a comedy in its slot.'
Well now after 32-years his prediction was right.
Jimmy Kimmel soon to take over 11:35, Nightline to graveyard 12:35.
Just ironic that the show routinely beat both Leno and Letterman...but not in ad bucks.
Bob Iger making a big bet seeing that Kimmel badly trails the two other guys but has a slight edge in younger demos.
Everybody now has a 7:00-9:00 morning show...so let's walk in lock-step...now everyone has an 11:35 late night talk/entertainment show.

Demand a time change to 11:35, as part of his renewal deal?
I think someone here wrote that, but I've never seen confirmation of it.
I thought "Nightline" was winning because the talk show race from 11:00 p.m. was too cluttered - not only with Jay and Dave, but Colbert/Conan/Chelsea etc. on cable.

Kimmel has publicly claimed this was ABC's idea but that doesn't make much sense.
Why would they torpedo Nightline, which was doing well?
