Is it done? Can I SEE IT? [Jefferson indicates dozens of rejected drafts strewn crumpled about his floor] John Adams: Do you mean to say that it is NOT YET FINISHED? Thomas Jefferson: No sir. I mean to say that it is not yet begun. John Adams: Good GOD! A whole week! The entire earth was created in a week! [Jefferson turns to face him] Thomas Jefferson: Someday, you must tell me how you did it. John Adams: Disgusting. ---- Dr. Benjamin Franklin: John, really. You talk as if independence were the rule. It's never been done before. No colony has ever broken from the parent stem in the history of the world. John Adams: Damn it, Franklin! You make us sound treasonous. Dr. Benjamin Franklin: Do I? Treason, eh? [thoughtfully] Dr. Benjamin Franklin: Treason is a charge invented by winners as an excuse for hanging the losers. John Adams: [scoffs] I have more to do than stand here listening to you quote yourself. Dr. Benjamin Franklin: No, that was a new one. |

I Would Bite You If I had teeth. But I don't thanks to my independence from both a job AND affordable health care. And it's Obama's fault I don't have a job. He made me so insufferable and incapable due to my anger that I was fired! So all I have is the freedom to be bitter and petty. Just as the forefathers planned. |

stay classy SPC; (Reuters) - President Barack Obama used an Independence Day ceremony in which immigrants serving in the U.S. military became citizens on Wednesday to renew his election-year call for new immigration laws popular with an important part of his political base. Wearing a red tie to celebrate the July 4th holiday at the White House, Obama addressed about two dozen foreign-born military personnel who were taking advantage of a program that offers them citizenship in return for their service. Obama, who is running for re-election in November, seized the opportunity to talk up his recent order lifting the threat of deportation for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children. The move appealed to Hispanic voters, a major voting bloc that could swing the election to the Democratic incumbent in battleground states such as Nevada and Colorado. "What a perfect way to celebrate America's birthday - the world's oldest democracy - with some of our newest citizens," Obama told the group of military members and their families, who came from countries including Mexico, Ghana, the Philippines, Bolivia, Guatemala, and Russia. "You put on the uniform of a country that was not yet fully your own. In a time of war, some of you deployed into harm's way. You displayed the values that we celebrate every Fourth of July - duty, responsibility, and patriotism," Obama said. Immigrants must come to the United States legally to enlist in the military. Bummed.... I told a bunch of young people that I was celebrating the 4th by "roughing up the first Tory I can find." They didn't get it. It's still a great line. |
