Small, buried, don't-worry-about-it story: NYPD will deploy 'harmless' gas into subway in terror response drill
On three separate days this July, invisible and odorless gases will be released in subway stations and at street level in all five boroughs of New York City. But officials in the New York Police Department will not be alarmed — it was their idea.
The gases, known as perfluorocarbons, will be dispersed to study how airborne toxins would flow through the city after a terrorist attack or an accidental spill of hazardous chemicals, the department said on Wednesday.
Researchers supervised by the Brookhaven National Laboratory will use about 200 monitors to trace the paths of the gases they release. The police intend to use the information gathered in the test, which they said would be the biggest such urban airflow study, to hone their plans for emergency responses.
Wouldn't catch me riding the subway in July. "Drills" have a tendency to break out into a "terrorist attack" with people dead.
Question: Police championed this idea? Not DHS, FEMA or FBI?
Be safe. Peace. (posting this as a PSA, will not be responding to any comments)

So much paranoia, so little time...
"Drills" have a tendency to break out into a "terrorist attack" with people dead." Reeeeally?? Would LOVE to hear about your documentation on that.
"Question: Police championed this idea? Not DHS, FEMA or FBI?" Well, since its New York City, why do you think the New York City police "championed" the idea? Duh?? And if you read the article; "The money came from a federal grant the police received from the Department of Homeland Security."
Oh, and about your "Small, buried, don't-worry-about-it story:"...it was on the front page of te NY/Region Section, FOUR days ago. How'd you hear about it?? Didn't know you lived there.
One more thing. One of our resident wingnuts (con) always uses the line "Never let a crisis go to waste" as some sort of insult and [especially Democrat] slur. It's not. It's called good thinking. Do you really think NYC woke ups some morning and said "Hey--lets spend a ton of money so we can be the safest city in the country--if not the world??
NO. You learn from history, especially tragedies. You take that crisis and use it to your advantage. That's why we have the DHS and airport screeners in the first place.
I can understand why you didn't want to 'respond to any comments'. You're embarassed.

Do you even know how many different anti-terror drills happen every day around the U.S., been there? It's safe to say one's going on somewhere right now.
Bet you believe that wind tunnel tests on airplanes are also some conspiracy that leads to airline crashes.
I wouldn't expect you to be on the trains during a drill you knew about. Heck, I'm surprised you're even able to walk outside without a full on anxiety attack.

The fire, earthquake and lockdown drills on the campus where I teach haven't broken out into terrorist attacks. The emergency-response tsunami drills in our beach towns also haven't brought on terrorist attacks.
What, are we chopped liver?

Drills are Dangerous!
Ever notice that we didn't even have tsunamis until the "government" started tsunami drills and escape routes?
I'm sure this subway test is designed for the DHS to determine how much gas to use to kill off people hiding from them.
After all, even with the hundreds of thousands of hollow point bullets, some might escape the coming onslaught the "government" will unleash.
Paranoia? No! Just pure fear.
