In order to become a government official one has to turn in his good sense and ability to think rationally.

I think the key to the article...
Is he is charged with illegally baiting a bear. It seems the bear came into his yard because the man lured it. Quite a bit different than the scenario he is trying to portray about being an innocent victim. Just happened to have that shotgun with him, eh?

"It seems the bear came into his yard
because the man lured it."
And you would know that...how, exactly? What clairvoyant powers do you have to know what his intentions were? From the article, he was replenishing his bird feeder.
And, yes, he reportedly had seen the bear in his yard previously. That's why he was armed.
Jesus, you people have to jump through your own asses to make a plain set of facts fit your wildly imaginative scenarios.

Great Post Hero!
This is a prime example of Obamacare and socialism out of control!
Now you can't even kill a bear in your own backyard!!
Clearly fluoridated water and the UN have caused a sort of fake moon landing conspiracy to protect bears and let them kill us, while Obamacare takes out AR-15 varmint rifles and the clips we need to hold enough military wounding bullets to fend off these commie bears!!!!

On the bear...
if he was charged with baiting the bear -- the cops probably have more to go on than is covered in the story.
My 79-year-old mother still lives on the family farm has black bears in her yard all the time. They get along fine with the neighborhood dogs and cats.
Bears tend to be nocturnal and anyone with half a lick of sense knows you don't go around in the country with potential bear food after dark -- and you certainly don't stock a bird feeder after dark.
It just sounds a little fishy to me.
Sorry, the bear shooter should take this as a lesson on how to live with nature.
The cyclist getting a ticket is a growing problem. I'm a cyclist and side with him over the cops. We've had a lot of similar problems in DC. The city's encouraged cycling, there's a bike share program, tons of bike lanes -- and you can finally drive through town because more people are taking bikes and leaving their cars parked.
The problem is that most people don't know traffic laws concerning bikes -- and that extends to cops. Cops often cite pedestrians or cyclists to cover their own mistakes. By the time it sorts itself out, the paper trail is often to convuluted for them to take any heat.
I'll give you half and half on this one, cruzo. But insulting all public servants for one sure screw up, isn't going to fly.

of course, the prefereed gun-nut method to deal with this situation is to shoot first. ... after all the bear was a liberal leech, searching for free handouts and demanding food wealth redistribution.
cons everywhere are celebrating.

What exactly was the point here? Except to point out there are idiots out there?
(cruise) "In order to become a government official one has to turn in his good sense and ability to think rationally." You know the first thing I thought of?? Why is this asshole walking around his back-yard with a shotgun? The piece does not say how big the yard is, or even if he has neighbors close by, but the dudes walking around with a loaded shotgun?? That would NOT go over well in my neighborhood.
And did you notice "illegally baiting a bear, (why did you make fun of 'livin'? "because the man lured it." "And you would know that...how, exactly?"[quote]) I dunno, the police charge of 'illegally baiting a bear??? AND he was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and failing to secure a weapon"
Illegal possession?? It wasn't even legal? and cruise?? Exactly which un-named "government official" is to be blamed here for anything??
and con? PLEASE explain to me where you got "what happens when the left is put in charge. of anything." What "LEFT"?? It was a bicycle accident six months ago. Throwing out the "left" has nothing to do with anything except to solidify your reputation as a nut case. Which is an insult to nut-cases everywhere.
With everything else going on, you two decide that a shotgun toting moron and a bicyclist who was in an accident last year, is somehow proof the Left is crazy and interfering.
Must really suck to be you.

Cruiser dead from the neck up...
and probably the waist down...How do I know he lured the bear into his yard? Because he was charged with baiting a bear...duh! He should have called officials when he saw the bear in his yard the first time. Duh again! It seems pretty obvious this man was intent on killing a bear. Nice that he decided to kill a mother bear with cubs. Real smart. No wonder cruiser is backing him up...bird brains of a feather...

had it comin to him. Tell me 'marsupial' isn't code word for leftist commie marxist hitler maoist. Most propably a black bear too. Reason enough to shoot him on sight.

What a bunch of idiots!
Obviously, none of you knows ANYTHING about bears.

Hey, I think it's interesting that in central Massachusetts, you have to take a shotgun with you to fill your bird feeder. Is that where angry birds come from?
It makes me glad to live where the bears only rummage through trash cans. People post online that they saw a bear, watched it, took photos and thought it was neat to see one. The bear eventually goes on about its bear business, and the people have something new to put on Instagram.

Now cruzo is an expert on bears!
I hear he "Kilt a bar on this tree when he wuz only three!"
Since cruzo isn't divulging his vast, encyclopedic knowledge of ursine behavior - rivaling that of Steven Cobert -- perhaps cruster can fill us in on how bears must be stopped with AR-15 varmit guns and military wounding ammunition!
