Last fall, KFMB eliminated several positions on the technical side of its operations in order to make the switch to automation. It of course saves them money in the long run. But I couldn't help and wonder if they did it in order to sell the station down the road. Leaner operations makes it more lucrative to potential buyers. With tv stations selling left and right these days, could 8's owners be looking to sell? And isn't their affiliation contract coming up for renewal in a few years?

Potential buyers will no doubt be highly impressed with the stations 'smooth as a baby's bottom' automation system.

Becoming more profitable makes any company more valuable. Our company did a lot of consolidating, eliminated positions, & hired cheaper replacements. Then they went on the market and found a buyer. KFMB's parent company may be considering the same.

Because it's fun to speculate.....

....who would be interested in taking a flyer on 8 if it ever winds up on the market?

My 2 guesses: CBS Corp. (to turn it into and O&O and create a nice little cluster of radio stations) or Cox Media Group (already a cable provider to a large part of the market and operator of a regional cable channel).

Based on what was published in the UT, KFMB only managed to take the early evening newscasts during May sweeps. Having CBS' primetime lead-in to the 11pm news and they still lose to KGTV? Mornings don't look so good either. At some point, they're going to have to shake things up because it's clear the status quo is not working.

That morning show is a disaster. They scream and everything they say ends like a question? Oh ma Gad!

Don't even get me started on that weather robot. She says "toward" 16 times in one 30 second update.

I do love hating them all. So much.

The Morning Show Weather Robot has been off the air for 3 weeks but she's still on the website?

What's up with that?

No one at 8 seems to be answering the viewer's questions on Facebook/Twitter on her disappearance. She hasn't even been there a year, and it would seem weird for them to let her go so quickly. Also, I wonder how long it's going to take them to get rid of that crappy music and graphics on the morning show. Viewers continue to complain on facebook, and you know it's bad when the average joe notices/comments on graphics and music.

I saw today Nichelle Medina tweeted a picture with Natasha Stenbock and the caption "Reunited and it feels so good". She is now on her 3rd station this year.

What a mess, and Natasha had just filled in at KNSD about a week and a half ago. Meanwhile, Vanessa's bio is still up on the site. It's interesting that she has not tweeted since May 31. Who knows if she'll ever come back.

Loudy Pants Posted - 6/26/2013 3:23:50 PM | show profile | flag this post

I fear for her mental health.

tvwatcher24 Posted - 7/1/2013 2:26:15 PM | show profile | flag this post

A one-month suspension would answer a lot of questions. Why Vanessa's bio is still on the station site, why they are not answering viewer questions as to where she is, why someone who's been there less than a year is off for an entire month-plus. See what they say when she returns. If she does.

insidesd Posted - 7/1/2013 5:49:34 PM | show profile | flag this post

Curious to know what she could have been suspended for that would last for more than a month. If anything, Natasha's sudden reappearance at 8 makes me think that management will just insert her in the morning slot permanently and make no announcement on it. Why else would she have gone back so quickly after she was doing freelance at NBC? The station is such a mess, wonder if any of the employees are missing Ed Trimble now.

And what happened to the Jack FM Morning show segment in the morning?

insidesd Posted - 7/3/2013 12:41:27 AM | show profile | flag this post

Haven't seen them on in a while. Could it be as a result of that incident involving one of the sidekicks of the DSC showing up in the tv studio with a bikini bottom exposing his testicles to the camera?

Just saw a promo for the morning newscast featuring Dan, NIchelle and Natasha. Safe to say that Vannesa is not coming back.
