Kathleen McCleary

Professional/Personal Overview
My first novel, House & Home, was published by Hyperion in 2008. The New York Times called it "A sharply funny work of catharsis." (It was released in paperback in 2009.) My second novel, A Simple Thing, is due out from HarperCollins in July, 2012. In addition to writing fiction, I've covered a wide range of topics as an award-winning national magazine and newspaper writer and editor, from talking to Michael Jordan about his thoughts on an afterlife to traveling by ferry through the San Juan Islands. I've written for a wide range of publications, including The New York Times, Ladies Home Journal, Health, and More. My work tends to inspire strong reader response: A personal essay in USA Weekend about the challenges of marriage generated dozens of responses; an article on ugly bathrooms for HGTV.com incited such an unprecedented reader response that it led to a TV show, "Bad, bad baths." I relocated to the east coast in 2004 after 12 years in Oregon.
