Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst says his staff is reviewing video tapes to confirm reports that members of the news media may have helped incite demonstrators, urging them to yell more help disrupt attempts to clear the galleries.

He said, "If I find, as I’ve been told, examples of the media waving and trying to inflame the crowd, incite them in the direction of a riot, I’m going to take action against them."

Dewhurst says limitations on late-term abortions are supported by a large majority of Texans and only a small group, including Planned Parenthood and the ACLU, opposes them. He says he will pass the measure.

And it's been reported

that Texas state senator Wendy Davis wore a back brace and urinary catheter to help her in her 11-hour filibuster attempting to kill the bill limiting late-term abortions.

You may want to view Governor Perry's remarks in the video following the article.

Grateful Deadline Posted - 6/29/2013 6:51:53 PM | show profile | flag this post isn't worthy of clicks.

Here's why, from an AP story posted at 1:12 p.m. today:

"Dewhurst also backed down from comments published Friday on the conservative website Hot Air, in which he said he'd heard reporters in the Capitol were inciting protesters. He told Hot Air he would "take action" against any reporters who were driving the crowd.

"On Saturday, he said he respected reporters and that 'the case is closed.'

"Dewhurst has been lieutenant governor since 2002, and he is running for re-election next year. But a year after he was soundly beaten in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate by Ted Cruz, Dewhurst faces rivals who used Tuesday's episode to question his ability. "

Translation: Dewhurst's attempt to use the press backfired when someone took exception to his presumption that protesters couldn't possibly have brains of their own.

The guy sounds like a real prizewinner.

Really cruiser?

Quoting an outdated Breitbart rumor mill when there's ACTUAL scandal and probable illegality to cite? The time stamp for the vote was altered, then changed after the fact. Fortunately, screen captures were made of the 2 versions. That might be a felony, and might be David Dewhurst's undoing.

cruiser Posted - 6/30/2013 11:42:22 AM | show profile | flag this post

I must confess

I did not extensively research this topic. There was no reason for me to do so. I just echoed what I read and I did that because the topic of late term abortions has been (or should have been...but that another story) in the news recently.

The objections to my post, however, deal ONLY with the actions of the Texas lieutenant governor.

There has been NO refutation of Dewhurst's assertion that a very large majority of Texans support a ban on late-term abortions. And there has been NO condemnation of Ms. Davis' apparent cheating (wearing a back brace and catheter) during her attempt to subvert the will of the majority.

I strongly suspect this is because those who responded politically support Ms. Davis' cause and loathe Lt. Governor Dewhurst.

VTexan Posted - 6/30/2013 1:22:34 PM | show profile | flag this post

I strongly suspect

...your proof of the catheter is as absent as your common sense.
Present your proof now, or admit you're just believing without question a very suspect source.

As to the back brace, you silly, uninformed man: putting the back brace on was captured on video as part of the live Texas Tribune feed of the event (see URL below). It also was the second germaneness violation she received in her filibuster.

This is a journalism site. Behave like one, and don't post things here 'til you actually know the details of of the event about which you're posting.

VTexan Posted - 6/30/2013 2:28:13 PM | show profile | flag this post

Another thing to cite, cruiser a rule saying wearing a back brace is cheating. The Texas Senate rules for filibuster are draconian--no eating, drinking, bathroom breaks and you can't even lean on a podium--but there's nothing about wearing a back brace.

Put up, or do what you apparently can't, shut up.

cruiser Posted - 6/30/2013 2:41:31 PM | show profile | flag this post

You lose

There are at least a dozen references to Ms. Davis' catheter on Google.

cruiser Posted - 6/30/2013 2:46:27 PM | show profile | flag this post

Oh and

I'm not a journalist...never represented myself as one...quite unlike most of the people here. Representing themselves as journalists, I mean, whether true or not. The absence of journalistic skills is a dead giveaway.

VTexan Posted - 6/30/2013 3:14:50 PM | show profile | flag this post

References on Google?

A dozen references on Google equates it to fact? My, but you've taken your silliness to all new heights. Google "vince foster murder bill clinton" and there are 1,020,000 results. That doesn't, in any sense mean Bill Clinton murdered Vince Foster.

Just for grins--try it yourself--I googled "cruiser is an idiot" and I got 2,330,000 results. Is that proof enough for you?

Further, I have never EVER represented myself as a journalist on this site. I worked for decades alongside journalists, which gave me a large respect for those who do it well. You apparently have none of those skills or respect.

cruiser Posted - 6/30/2013 3:17:35 PM | show profile | flag this post

I respect journalists

not editorialists and commentators masquerading as journalists.

VTexan Posted - 6/30/2013 3:36:03 PM | show profile | flag this post

You're saying you don't respect yourself?

I don't respect you either. Finally: something on which we agree.

cruiser Posted - 6/30/2013 4:30:22 PM | show profile | flag this post

Your lunacy is hardly worth a reply but what the hell?

To reiterate, I'm not a journalist...never represented myself as one.

VTexan Posted - 6/30/2013 5:21:45 PM | show profile | flag this post

So your excuse

...for the several stupid, uninformed, non-journalistic points you've made in this thread are, therefore, understandable?

Got it!

cruiser Posted - 6/30/2013 5:42:03 PM | show profile | flag this post

You can delude yourself

any way you choose, pal.

VTexan Posted - 6/30/2013 6:44:56 PM | show profile | flag this post

You've dug yourself quite a hole here

--Posted an outdated, unsubstantiated story
--Cited questionable abortion approval statistics without actually citing statistics, or for that matter, sources
--Claimed Wendy Davis' wearing of a back brace was against the rules--it wasn't.
--Cited her wearing of the brace as she did it secretively. Given that she put it on in front of EVERYone, including cameras in a live feed several hours into the filibuster, that's ludicrous.
--Claimed Davis wore a catheter, and when challenged, substantiated that claim by citing that there were more than a dozen posts about it on Google. Oh my! It's on the internet; it must be true!
After this huge stack of errors, sloppiness and outright stupidity on your part, it's me who's delusional?

You know cruiser, after all these years of talking sense to your nonsense, I don't know if there's been a clearer delineation between our sides. Nonsense, and common sense. Everyone reading these posts knows this. And when I say everyone, I mean you, too.

cruiser Posted - 6/30/2013 7:18:57 PM | show profile | flag this post

All these years???

Speaking of nonsense, you people haven't been here that long.

what a nobody you are, cruiztwit..

What an a**hole

The longer I ignore his inane posts the more strident and aggressive he gets.

mpdodgson Posted - 7/1/2013 11:55:29 AM | show profile | flag this post

Wow. I miss a week here

Because of work, and I see the psycho went into overdrive. Think it's time for another self-imposed absence there cruise.

Why any conservative would even bring up the Texas Abortion Debate Debacle in general, or Wendy Davis, Dewhurst, Perry, or the protests in particular is just beyond 'stupid politics'. (But then that's what conservatives have been known for in recent years). They made a hero out of a [before now] unknown legislator, galvanized the left, and made Texas an even more laughing-stock than they it was before.

Dewhurst threatening protesters and the media was bad enough, but then watching morons like cruise pick up the lying baton and run with with it was comical (You guys are still shakin your heads about the 'Romney landslide'?? Really??)

cruise? Exposed AGAIN as nothing more than a nutso hack. Citing outdated debunked op-eds and myths, his {defense?} is "I did not extensively research this topic. There was no reason for me to do so. I just echoed what I read"

Who knew that? EVERYONE. Then the stupidity gets squared. "I respect journalists not editorialists and commentators masquerading as journalists." Well then, cite journalists instead of editorialists and commentators. Duh.

Tex burned your lying butt ,and you still have the nerve to call other people "a**holes" (THAT he puts in asterisks, but 'kraut, wop, kike, gook, chink, spic, A-rab, hunky, mick, and niggers', well, he doesn't want to offend anyone). It's just so nice to watch an a**hole destroy himself in full view of everyone.

cruiser Posted - 7/1/2013 12:04:10 PM | show profile | flag this post

It's all in how you choose to perceive it, pal

and you are demonstrably myopic. Or not so bright. You obviously didn't correctly perceive what my post was about...and it wasn't that difficult. I even explained it in a subsequent post. But then you've been known to deliberately ignore the facts in your exaggerated, hyperbolic and politically motivated rants.

mpdodgson Posted - 7/1/2013 12:13:31 PM | show profile | flag this post

Oh yea, two more things

Re your "All these years??? Speaking of nonsense, you people haven't been here that long." And orthicons reply "mosy of us have been herre long enough to know.."???

MB's records show you have 2283 posts....We all pretty much know where you're coming from. 2283 posts?? Good Lord.

Second point was about your constant refrain "a very large majority of Texans support a ban on late-term abortions." Yes. The polls do show that, you are correct. What you leave out is that 'Late term abortions' are one thing...(Even Dem/Libs are against that in most cases) but there are polls that show "63 percent say the state has enough restrictions on abortion" in the first place. AND the purpose of the Texas/Dewhurst measures is NOT to prevent only 'late terms'--but ALL abortions.

Dewhurst is pushing for "banning abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, requiring that the procedure be performed at ambulatory surgical centers, and mandating that doctors who perform abortions obtain admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles.

Supporters say such limits will safeguard women's health, but opponents argue the upgrades facilities will have to undergo to meet the new requirements are so costly that they will force nearly every abortion provider in the state to close. Dewhurst has acknowledged that the ultimate goal is to shutter abortion clinics." Got that? That's his goal.

You're such a tool.

cruiser Posted - 7/1/2013 12:25:38 PM | show profile | flag this post

I don't think you realize

just how partisan and unhinged you become when you've been spanked. An aggressive offense is not always the best defense. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.

I destroy you every time you open your mouth in a fit of blind rage but you don't have the smarts to realize it.
