Stop it. Stop. It.
I was hoping her comeback to GMA tomorrow would bring all the hype to an end.
Now I'm wondering if she's returning to the Oscar red carpet Sunday evening, too.

A cancer survivor...
God bless her -- and ABC.
There was a time in this industry when a cancer diagnosis meant a pink slip.
Glad to see times are a-changing.

I'm glad she's alive, too....
But I know I'm not the only one who thinks ABC has been milking this - far more than was done with Peter Jennings in the last decade.

First, of course it is about ratings. As the kids say, well duh! Everything in television is about ratings. Those who say otherwise are just plain naive.
Second, this is a great example of how the desire for ratings can also be a positive. Every day families hear the same kind of news Robin got and knowing someone has survived gives them hope. Any medical professional will tell you that one key to survival is the right mental attitude. Robin's story gives real hope, something well worth the additional airtime plus all the negative feedback from people like most of you.

do those families looking for hope have access to the same doctors and money that Roberts has?

One thing about the cancer treatments of today is they were all clinical trials yesterday. To any person facing the same diagnosis as Robin the fact she is alive today gives them hope. Are the same treatments available? Yes, if not today then maybe next month, next year, or the next.

Milking the story? Who's milking?
On all its broadcasts on =Tuesday= WABC-TV in NYC did promos saying that starting during its Wednesday morning 4:00 AM show it would begin a "Countdown to Robin's return".
Then on Wednesday itself channel 7 =showed= the return of Robin on its NOON, 4:00PM, 5:00PM, 6:00pm and 11:00PM broadcasts.
Now, tonight's 20/20 will have a full-blown take-out on Robin's medical battle.
Milking this story appparently paid off in that GMA had its best ratings in the last 3-months.

And on top of that....
Robin was the World News "Person of the Week."
The only other ABC News person I can recall gaining that title was Peter Jennings -- after he died.

OK, I'll take it back
ABC won a Peabody Award today for the Robin Roberts story.
Maybe I'm simply getting cynical in my older years. :-/
