There was a brief article in the NYPost today about Al Roker making a joke of how NBC thru Ann Curry “under the bus”. He was part of an interview with the Women’s US Rowing Team, when Matt asked a question about throwing one of the members into the water after the race, that’s when Al said “That’s different than our tradition, which is you throw one of us under the bus, but that’s another story” I have to honestly say though, can’t speak for the other two networks, but NBC does have an ongoing habit of throwing their on air talent under the bus, including the local team. I’ve been watching Al ever since he landed the local weather gig in the early 80’s since we’re both from the same neighborhood in Queens, NY. His father, who was a bus driver was involved in a minor incident with a female busdriver, which I can remember to this day being covered on air by the local news. It was kind of a sexual harassment case where he was involved showing a female bus driver pics from a Playboy or similar magazine and making untoward comments. It wasn’t heavily covered, there was just a small blurb in the local paper, but being from the same neighborhood, I remember my mother heard from someone else (and so on and so on) and I remember her asking if I heard it on the news as well. I know his father passed about five years ago, but can you imagine if that happened after Al got the Today Show gig? When Darlene Rodriquez’ policeman husband was accused of rape by an underage girl, that was the opening story on the NBC local news. I guess I’m being naïve when I think your own network would cut you some slack when you are a family member does something “newsworthy”. |

there is absolutely no question that this is the most nonsensical, drivelous, aimless and disjointed post ever placed here. WTF, Lauara, you actually think the most profitable nbc news franchise should espouse friendship and loyalty when faced with the loss of eight figures? are you a complete idiot--or just some bridge-and-tunnel moron in love with curry? clearly, the earlier poster had you dead-to-rights: another ed in n.j. with no life or professional standing--but with strong fictional attachments to local news figures who double as your imaginary friends. |

Forgot the Ann Curry connection... the truth is all of us could be thrown under the bus. that's the way this damn business runs. ten years, twenty years, means nothing. there is no security, there is no loyalty to employees, you do not earn tenure the way a college professor does. so the business sucks. what else is new? |
