(If you hadn't heard---Politico, Huff Post Friday2/1/13)
Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, is leaving, he said in a memo to the network's staff.
News of Capus' departure was first reported by Politico.
In the memo, Capus, who has run NBC News since 2005, said that it was an "extremely difficult decision" to leave. He will exit in the coming weeks, and has named no successor. His departure, as the New York Times' Brian Stelter noted, has been a topic of conversation for months.
Capus presided over a relatively stable time at NBC News. It remained, for most of his tenure, the top-rated news network on television, though in the last year "Today" has fallen behind its competitors and "Meet the Press" has seen its ratings squeezed. NBC News also weathered the death of Tim Russert while Capus was in charge.

Well, I can't really say I'll miss him because he's not an on-air personality, but just from reading his statements in press releases about Chelsea and Matt and others, he seems so plastic and phony, a well trained BS artist. I sense that he can be quite ruthless, I always felt that if it came down to it, he would probably have no problem getting rid of his best buddy Brian Williams if pressured without a second thought. But, that's just my humble opinion of course.
