Hi - Can anyone recommend a lawyer to help me chase down payment from a magazine that owes me $2700? The magazine is in the US, I'm in Europe (I just moved here) and I'm not getting anywhere pestering the editor. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Daisy |

Your best bet would be small claims court, but that would be tricky with you out of the country. A lawyer's fees might take too big a bite out of anything you'd recoup. A cheaper alternative would be to have a lawyer send a letter demanding payment, and hope that the intimidation factor works to your advantage. |

A lawyers' letter can work wonders. It has for me. Find a lawyer who practices in the same city as the deadbeat publisher. A letter won't cost more than a few $100 at most and you've got nothing to lose by trying. I found a lawyer in Kansas City (I'm in NY) by asking for help on LinkedIn. |
