(The "AP" credit means "Associated Press." Not "me." If you have a gripe with the story, take it up with the AP. Since we're on a media professionals board, it's assumed that everybody here knows where and how to do that and how the "associated" in the AP's name works.) BOSTON (AP) — Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is expected to begin receiving regular intelligence briefings from the Obama administration in the coming days. Senior aides report that the Romney campaign is nearing the conclusion of a required security clearance process. The former Massachusetts governor did not have to request the briefings. They are customary for major-party candidates after their nominating conventions. With limited intelligence information, Romney struggled this week to respond in real time to a violent clash in Libya that left four Americans dead, including an ambassador. Before the deaths were confirmed, Romney mischaracterized the incident in his initial statement and accused President Barack Obama of a "disgraceful" handling of violence. Romney has been relying on his foreign policy advisers and published news reports to inform his positions on world affairs. |

You have to wonder.. if these briefings would have helped Romney avoid the massive implosion he suffered earlier this week. Or would he have still gone off with his horribly flawed statement before getting all the facts from an intel briefing. And, considering Romney blurted out classified information during a news conference in London over the summer, would he have breached national security and blurted out sensitive or classified information in making a political statement on the consulate attack. At least he'll get a view into the inner workings of foreign policy. Hope he uses it properly. |

The daily intelligence briefings DAMN sure don't help Obama...he seldom attends. Hasn't attended one for weeks. And, in fact, he blew one off the other day to go to Las Vegas and fund raise...RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EMBASSY SITUATION. |

But unlike George W. Bush... Obama READS the briefings. All of them. http://www.thenation.com/blog/169921/newest-gop-national-security-attack-obama-he-reads Imagine that. A president who can read! |

You can't ask questions or have a discussion with a printed page. And Obama appears to be so arrogant and egotistical he thinks he doesn't need to ask any questions. That's pretty scary...and his lack of knowledge shows. Bush, on the other hand, usually didn't need to read the briefings because HE PERSONALLY ATTENDED EVERY ONE HE POSSIBLY COULD. |

Gosh, we knew that you know everything about everything, but to think that you also know how everyone should do everything, too! It boggles the mind that you sit here typing on this obscure forum with a handful of people you disrespect, when you could be out saving the world. |

I certainly hope you've advised the president about how to do his job. |

If you really are a college professor (which I doubt) the world could sure use a course on Modern Sacrasm. |

Attending briefings in person (as opposed to via modern technology, including phone and video conferencing) didn't seem to help George W. any. He's still rated by historians as one of the worst presidents we've ever had. |

Every time I cash my check, I think: Thank you, cruiser, for your fraction of a penny. |

Not only can Obama read.... he can use them fancy telephone machines to ask questions when he needs to. To bad W never even phoned it in -- or listened to the briefings. Must suck or you, cruzo, to see a real leader in the White House for the past three-plus years. |
