Rush and Hannity Canceled

"In a major shakeup for the radio industry, Cumulus Media, the second-biggest broadcaster in the country, is planning to drop both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity from its stations at the end of the year, an industry source told POLITICO on Sunday."
Can't blame 'em. Sean and Rush are bad for business. A Cumulus Media official was quoted in Radio Ink earlier this month saying, "Forty-eight of the top 50 network advertisers have 'excluded Rush and Hannity' orders.

Is it too soon
To blame Socialists and Commies for this 'Free Market' decision?

no, it was probably the fault of all those..
radical lib femi-nazis..you know.. the sluts..
that the actual free market might have done it would be anathema to the tea party/reactionary republicans out there..
never mind that it would be true..they have their own truths, which seldom match up with reality..
Hannity might survive on television..Limbaugh has no tv show..hell, he might have to go back to being a country-western dj in sacramento..

Rush has earned so much money in the last 20 years
that he's set for life if he chooses to hang it up.
But I'd look for him to be back on the air sooner rather than later. Hannity doesn't have the breadth and depth of Limbaugh so he might have a harder time of it but conservative talk radio is not dead. Far from it.
Just because left wing rabble rousers have scored a temporary victory by threatening boycotts, etc., doesn't mean a thing for the viability of conservatism.

true conservatism would be a lot more viable.and should be..
if idiots like Limbaugh and Hannity weren't out there giving conservatism a bad name.. making all conservatives look and sound like retarded junior high school dropouts..
and yes..ratings and ad sales prove that talk radio IS losing audience share.. pretty damned quickly..if that were not the case, cumulus radio would NOT be firing their asses at the end of their contracts..they'd be giving big raises..
the free market at work..

Owns several competitors to Rush and Hannity, No surprise they would drop those shows from their stations and replace them with programming they own.
This was a brief interlude of facts. You may now return to partisan rhetoric.

Rush and Sean...
are in trouble for the same reasons the GOP is in trouble -- the target audience for conservative radio and the Republican Party is the same: older, white people.
That demographic is shrinking daily as whites are fast becoming a majority minority and old people do what old people do -- they die off.
Rush has been irrelevant since Bush's re-election in 2004. Since then, his schtick has been a huge drag on Republicans and the conservative movement in general.
As far as conservative talk radio -- radio is dying. NPR even took the word "Radio" out of it's official name more than 10 years ago as they shifted to a multi-platform media company (they're just NPR, like KFC, nowadays). NPR has expanded it's audience by more than 50% since beginning it's online, social and mobile efforts around the time of 9/11. (Their latest move is making their stream a "homepage" in new Ford products -- you start the car, turn on your sound system, and it takes you first to NPR's online services).
Meanwhile, conservative talk radio has seen it's audience shrink dramatically since the middle of the last decade. It has continued to cling to a radio-first strategy with a business model still suited to the late 80s for AM radio stations. They've gotten some traction in FM, simply because FM is today largely where AM was 20 years ago.
I was surprised to even see an AM radio in my new car. And FM radio is in such bad shape financially their trade groups have been trying to get the FCC to ORDER that all cell phone manufacturers include an FM receiver in all new phones. That's a desperate bid to stay in business.
People are changing the way they get information.
So, cruzo, con, and the rest of the rightwing here can continue to dial in Rush on AM or shortwave or maybe a crystal receiver or whatever.
When I'm in the car, I'm firing up Sirius or Pandora or loading my iPod playlist of podcasts or clicking on NPR's newsstream. So are the folks younger than me. That's all too complicated for 99% of Rush's audience to follow.

It turns out that
this has NOTHING to do with their politics or their programming. This is a big dispute over syndication and will likely be settled amicably...and soon.
Cumulus would be giving up a BIG chunk of change and that would not be smart business.

speaking of looking and sounding like "retarded junior high school dropouts"
all this liberal ejaculation over rush and sean being "canceled"- and "RIP" conservative talk radio-is premature.
this low-rent negotiating tactic is what cumulus media is known for. cumulus media has a history of being poorly managed, losing talent and killing off radio stations. that being said- cumulus media knows circling the drain time for them if they don't keep rush and sean.
noah rothman gets it-
Those organizations that have been, largely without success, trying to force conservative broadcasters off the air by targeting their advertisers with boycotts are now latching on to what is most likely a series of public negotiations over syndication costs to show that their efforts have not been in vain. That is a show of desperation, not efficacy.
desperation-and intolerance - is what the left is all about.......

When more than 90% of your advertisers...
have a "No Rush or Sean" order -- you're losing money every minute Rush and Sean are taking up your air.
