The Te'o Tale

A Facebook friend tells me the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax, and the delay in its revelation, is a case of mainstream journalism not doing its job while bloggers do the real digging.
Methinks at least two factors are at play in the coverage of this case:
1. Many newsrooms (TV, newspapers et al) have cut staff due to a tight economy, leaving less time and personnel to investigate stories.
2. Some reporters actually DO have hearts, and try to show some compassion toward grieving people. In this case, the reporters who did that left a door open for being scammed.

It was a good story that everyone WANTED to believe.
I'm not buying that he's a naive victim though.
Too much doesnt add up, namely that he made many references to meeting her when he hadn't.
Also, why would a star player who could have any woman on campus stay for years in this mythical online relationship.
I predict what's next is that many women come forward to say they'd been with him while he was allegedly devoted to the fake "love of his life."

The Te'o Tale
I think he's a gay. Mormon football player. How else could he get hoaxed like this?

I`m beginning to doubt that he is even Mormon. A ruse was created after his freshman football season. How convenient for him to now have an on-line girlfriend, who he just worships! Has no on campus girlfriend his whole time at ND. Yet he is the big man on campus. Girls throw themselves at stars like him, and yet he was so faithful to someone he never met. Never once said he even tried to visit her. School gets out in May, and football practice starts back up in July, and not once you decide to surprise her after her accident and then diagnosis of cancer. Really, are we suppose to believe this. I believe he`s not into girls also! That`s my opinion.

He is Mormon----seriously considered BYU when he was being recruited.

If you don't care, why are you reading this thread, much less posting in it?

I don't care, either...
I read it to see if anyone was interested and why. No answer to why. It's an embarrassing story for Te'o and I don't really want to see the guy squirm his way through it. There are a number of explanations as to what happened, none of which hold my interest.
