Using HARO, Pitchrate, etc. to get exclusives

I'm a technology writer and wanted to ask about using services like HARO, Pitchrate, Profnet, etc. to put out requests for exclusive story scoops for major publications. Has anyone tried this or know someone who has? Of course the stories can't be posted or discussed anywhere online or offline yet. I'd basically describe my background and what I'm looking for and for which publication(s). Their reason to come to me with the scoop is because I write/report for the outlets and might be able to do a story. Any other services that have worked well for this? Thanks.

Also, I'd be looking for stories about large (often known) companies rather than startups or other "unknowns" unless it's major news like a partnership with a large company, funding, or other major angle.

I know people who've done this. Can't say the success rate is huge, but they occasionally find something. I've put up requests for story ideas on these sites. Occasionally, I've gotten something of value.

I've used Haro successfully a few times to find "real people" for stories.

HARO can be good, but realize you have a lot of marketing folks who pay absolutely no attention to your request and will inundate you with their information. You have to sift through things.
However, if you're looking for scoops, you generally have to find them yourself. Sorry.
