Now that the administration has started putting out all sorts of doomsday scenarios if more spending isn't approved; air traffic control towers being abandoned, etc (Oh those dirty republicans!)...will the news organizations in this country simply parrot what is given them or will they actually take some of these doomsday predictions and actually investigate and report on its truthfulness. Have a feeling it will be news as usual; mainstream electronic and print media acting as the voice of Obama's headline department, putting out the propaganda message like good little puppets. |

no, i don't think so..everyone seems to be efforting.. stories that actually try to explain what's happening.. when it will come about..and how it will affect us all.. i knows that doesn't fit in with your preconceived notions.. but that's what i'm seeing so far..they've got a ways to go, but they'll get there.. |

Doomsday WILL NOT happen All the talk about public safety workers losing their jobs is just a typical left wing scare tactic. None of the government is going to shut down...airplanes will continue to fly and land safely in the capable hands of air traffic controllers. The $85 billion sequester merely slows the rate of spending INCREASES. All of this sound and fury is over something that is virtually meaningless. |

Do I have an opinion...yes True, Orthicon, I do have preconceived notions. But they're based on an unfortunate several year history of media having lost its way. There may or may not be an effort in this case to find out what's really the truth, but in the meantime the doomsday scenarios that the administration puts out continue to be duly headlined by the media. I've always felt headlines are often counter to honest news reporting. Sure they're designed to grab the audience, but the audience doesn't necessarily stick around to hear the story behind it. Politicians know that and capitalize on it; spreading disinformation as they are now, the more horrible the scenario the better their chances of having it spread via news headlines. Obviously just my opinion. |

If the FAA posts a list of 230 air traffic control towers that are proposed for closure, media should not report it without first doing their own budget analyses and cutback proposal. Is this what you're saying? |

The budget analysis is easy When the $58 billion sequester does NOT cut spending by one dime but only slows the rate of INCREASE it is apparent on its face that air trafic controllers' jobs are NOT in jeopardy. To say they are is the most cynical kind of Democrat scare tactic. And to imply that the sequester would threaten the jobs of police and firefighters...who are paid from LOCAL or STATE funds...is just plain dishonest. |

I'm seeing very serious looks.. into the effects of sequestration. When you have two aircraft carriers ALREADY pulled out of commission, 80% of ground forces training cut in the Army and basic services on U.S. military bases curtailed by 20% due to civilian furloughs -- it's not "doomsday" as you put it, but it's pretty rough on national security. But, hey. Boehner got 98% of what he wanted with this sequestration. |

So now that the left wing's lies have been exposed... the sequestration will NOT threaten the jobs of public safety responders and air traffic controllers as disingenuously stated*...now the left is reverting to its previous bullsh*t that it's a threat to the military. You'd think they'd be jumping for joy. They've been agitating for withdrawal from Afghanistan for years. But no...they're using their political dishonesty to attempt to scare the American people. * Warnings of layoffs of police, firefighters, etc., have always worked for Democrats in the past by provoking frightened outcries from the American public. But apparently not this time. |

Even the Obama-supporting New York Times in an article by Jonathan Welsman and Jackie Calmes acknowledges that the supposed threat to air traffic control is an attempt by the Obama administration to scare the public into putting pressure on congress to stop the sequester. There's no need to accept bullsh*t from a couple of obscure web sites. |

Doomsday? Hah! Another recession and millions of lost jobs is the best thing that can happen to America. Because WE can blame Obama. Sure, lots of people will suffer, the military will lose readiness, soldiers and hard working civilian military contractors will lose pay. But true heroes don't care! Patriots like newscred and cruiser are ready to stand their ground and repeat the ideas of Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Savage, O'Reilly and the rest of their "thought makers". Let America crumble, it's our ideology that matters. |

Whatever you do, do NOT Read this article. It provides a clear understanding of what can happen. Warning: it does not continue any of the scare tactics we have been hearing, nor does it suggest that the effects will be minimal. It really is a fair look at the issue (meaning none of you will like it). http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323549204578320420929467116.html |

OK, I read the article. It says exactly what we've been saying here. So what was your purpose, blackedtaped, in slapping us around? Just a little feel-good for you? |

Thanks Grateful for reading the article I thought it presented a fair and honest evaluation of the outcome if the sequester does occur. If you think that is what this thread represents then you and I just disagree. |

Newscred, are you serious? The major news media has given up on journalism. With all that is going on in Washington, the only thing that pissed them off was no photo ops with Obama playing golf with Tiger Woods. Disgusting. Why are these people being paid? |
