Just askin'.
It seems to me that if you want to win over people to your political ideology IS NOT to harangue them incessantly by:
-- calling them idiot.
-- calling them stupid.
-- calling them liar.
-- disrespecting their opinions.
-- twisting their words.
-- stalking them around the forum to do the above.
-- trying to shout them down.
-- presenting them with self-created "facts."
-- trying to outpost them.
... and the list disgusting continues.
Is it because you were never taught how to interact with other people?
Is it because you're working out other issues behind the mask of anonymity?
Is it because you've been kicked out of in-person forums and this is your only remaining outlet?
Is it because you really don't give a damn about the image you create of your stated political party?
I'm beginning to seriously doubt that there are as many of you as there are screen names. That's because NONE of the Republicans I know act like they crawled out of a gutter or were born in a barn. They're respectful people capable of carrying on a conversation that (1) isn't all about them, and (2) doesn't sound like they're parroting some sort of GOP chip implanted in their brains.
So I ask: Why are the cons on this board so crude? What's the purpose, and what do you think you gain by it?

P.S. If it's any consolation, I'm about to run out of a daily 5 minutes here -- launching a second business, plus the fall-semester return to professor life.
All I can say is that it has been a weird trip here, unsettling, and I'm very happy that it doesn't resemble real life!

ignorant, stupid liars..
they're basically trolls..
unllike some people like blackedtape, stopbs, and a couple of others who state their cases clearly and intelligently..

they could, however, be safely ignored, as i'm doing with cruiztwit..

Nice post Grateful;
But you left out the typical 'all you have is ad hominem' after calling them all of the above; that's the best part.
I also think you're propably accurate about the screen names (especially the REALLY inane drunk sounding responses. One would hope they're the same person)
(Just as a personal aside, I'm still an Assoc Prof in Journ, what's your field?)

What it REALLY is...at least for me...
I get weary of being denigrated and addressed with arrogant condescension and misplaced self-righteousness. And I get REALLY tired of being called everything but my actual screen name. If you take a close, HONEST look you'll find that I'm merely echoing back the treatment I get from you left wingers. If you don't like it, clean up your acts. I'll follow suit just as soon as I find out you're serious.
Oh, and I'm not politically correct and don't defer to women who think they have bigger balls than mine...especially when they follow that up with a "poor-me, I'm so set upon by the big, mean, nasty man" or try to act like my mommy.
Ball's in your court.

A simple answer
If you think it is just "cons" that act that way then you have your answer. Respect is a two way street, if you want it you have to give it.
I might suggest you choose a different term to describe conservatives. The term "cons" has more than one meaning and is not really a good way to start off a discussion. I would not start an attempt at an open and honest dialogue with the term "libs".

That's patently false. When you people arrived here I tried to engage you with civility, logic and a moderate to conservative viewpoint. That was met with ad hominem and insults.
I reflected that back at you and now you're using it as an excuse to keep up your anti-social behavior.

The cons commitment to understanding and civility
Has been well demonstrated in congress .... Yelling liar at the POTUS, blocking every attempt at bipartisanship, even when dem leadership presented the GOPs own policies as a foundation for legislation.
Cons have one and one goal only: to see Obama fail.
Always attack, never apologize.
Oh cons, you're such victims.

I am called more names by you, and others like you, than just about anyone else on this board. Go to any topic that I have started, and you will see people on the left call me names in almost every post. Why doesn't that name calling upset you?

I did call him an idiot. I have called people names on this board. I Never claimed that I didn't.
Almost every topic that I create, someone on the left calls me a name. The people on the left are just as crude, if not worse name callers, than people on the right.

It is neither an enlightening nor worthwhile experience.

However when someone writes something that is 100% right on the money then I must agree.

Wow. I can only say "Amen and Amen". I only hope I can have the determination to stay away. This forum and the old Sandbox have been a part of my everyday routine for over 9 years now. Walking away is not easy but it must be done for my own sanity.

blacktaped, beenthere -- I'm right along with you! Since starting this thread, I've spent a grand total -- total! -- of a couple of minutes a day here. One day, I didn't visit at all. And didn't miss a thing! Now to two days, three, four and poof! Gone!
There's an old saying that goes something like: You don't get anywhere by wallowing in the mud. So onward and upward! I guarantee that while these old "sandbox" guys are still calling each other names, we'll be making money and helping our communities to become better places to live.

I have not been here much this summer. I'd rather
be at the beach but when I come back after a few
days away, it's the same old, same old. As for the
crude tone here, I think it's because MB does not
moderate.

I am further reminded (or re-reminded) that these guys have been doing the same old thing FOR YEARS. Yes, years. Can you imagine?
Unfortunately, when our forum had finally become a place where it was possible to have a discussion, MB shunted these "sandbox" boys into it. C'est la vie, but the forum was created in the first place as the dumping ground for nasty semi-literate supposedly political trash-talkers who were ruining other forums on the board. So, for a brief while, it rose above expectations -- and now the silver lining for us, blacktaped and beenthere, is that we're repelled back into using time productively! Wishing you two the very best successes, and hoping to see you in a different forum.
