Position Summary: The Associate Director of Communications Visual Design and Brand Manager is an in-house leadership role, covering admissions and donor communications, newsletters, and website content. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical. The Associate Director prepares, manages, and oversees content of all school promotional and marketing materials, including web content, graphic design, and print communications projects. This may include, but is not limited to, providing consultation, written content, and strategic guidance on the production of marketing and promotional materials for Institutional Advancement, academic, and other initiatives to maximize the intended impact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As Brand Manager, plans and executes brand marketing and advertising programs to raise awareness of The Haverford School and its perceived value among targeted audiences. Responsible for communicating consistent messages across print and electronic media. Ensures that key, strategic messages are communicated effectively to target audiences. Develops and enforces brand standards for content, design, digital media, and merchandising. Manages accounts of in-house clients, including Admissions, Alumni Relations, Athletics, Development, Headmasters Office, and program-related events and activities. Helps clients develop promotional strategies and solutions to creative, logistical, and technical problems. Responsible for estimating costs and monitoring project timelines. Involved in developing admissions and development marketing strategy. Generates print and online content, including social media, to engage audience segments and lead to measurable action. Helps decide to whom, where, and when to disseminate content. Puts communications vehicles in place to test the effectiveness of communications activities. Manages the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and some electronic collateral including, but not limited to, brochures, e-newsletters, and the Schools websites. Collaborates on Website design, maintenance, and overall structure and flow of information. Collaborates on conceiving, designing, and executing Email Marketing programs to increase admissions event attendance and development donor acquisition and retention. Helps develop communication plans and segmentation strategies. Evaluates effectiveness of email communications. As part of the multidisciplinary communications team, participates in yearly communications planning, helps assess progress, and contributes to the successful implementation of yearly Communications and Institutional Advancement plans. Develops ideas, designs, and facilitates mailing of Annual Fund solicitations 5-6 times per year. Supervises the work of outside agencies and contractors for virtually all design and printing jobs for Admissions, Communications, and Development, which involves establishing and maintaining relationships with vendors and tracking all information. Develops creative designs for a wide variety of printed materials, including brochures, directories, invitations, signs, fliers, calendars, holiday cards, admissions forms and printed materials, posters, programs, handbooks, etc. Specific projects include: Haverford School Today (December/March/June/September) Annual Fund solicitations (September/December/May) School Directory (August/September) Advertisements (print and web) Academic Calendar (December/January) Principles of Community (December/January) Online video and slide shows (Holidays & ad hoc) Honor Code booklet (January, as needed) Hall of Fame invitation and program (February) Admissions forms/postcards/brochures (as needed) Alumni materials e.g., Class Reunion, invitations, e-communications (as needed) Postcard invitations for guest speakers Posters for upcoming events Manages stationery and business card orders and inventory Serves on the Operations Committee. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: An undergraduate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university 4-6 years experience in print and digital media design, print production, and project management, including publications budget management, price negotiation, and dispute resolution, preferably in the education industry Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written form Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to conduct research, analyze, and interpret data Experience with development, implementation, and enforcement of graphic standards Strong capabilities with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Bridge Strong capabilities with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint A working knowledge of HTML and Web content management systems Experience capturing and editing video and slide shows using iMovie and/or FinalCut Experience with social media sites and tools, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Vimeo, YouTube, SmugMug, and Flickr Ability to establish work priorities Ability to gracefully handle difficult overlapping problems under pressure while working independently Ability to work effectively as a collaborative team member to meet broad institutional and marketing and communications office goals Ability to work independently and creatively within established guidelines; a self-starter Familiarity with AP Style Guide is a plus
