HuffPost Gay Voices, the Huffington Post's LGBT section has an opening for a paid winter/spring internship based in New York City.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Pitching and writing original story ideas
- Suggesting stories for aggregation
- Researching, writing and copy editing original content
- Researching, writing and copy editing slideshows
- Other general assignments working closely with HuffPost Gay Voices editors
We’re looking for someone who is well versed in LGBT history, culture, and news and who is always on the look out for the next big story, as well as the smaller stories that matter to LGBT readers. Candidates should also understand how LGBT issues operate within larger frameworks – like mainstream media and the advantages therein.
A curious mind who can simultaneously visualize the big and small pictures is a definite plus.
Candidates should be extremely web savvy, quick learners, detail-oriented, energetic, efficient, good at self-directed follow through, good at taking direction,
excellent writers/copy editors and be avid consumers of online media.
What is absolutely required is serious dedication to detail, swift and accurate writing ability, and attention to deadlines – all while juggling multiple tasks at once.
Experience with Photoshop, Movable Type or similar blogging platform, basic HTML preferred.
This is great opportunity to learn all the ins and outs of new media and get first-hand exposure to how The Huffington Post works. The position would mostly revolve around content creation, and the intern would have an opportunity to pitch article ideas.
This is a paid, full time, six month internship located in our New York, NY office- 40 hours/week at $10.00/hr.
Candidates must be current students or recent graduates (0-6 months from graduation).
