Callahan & Associates, a leading consultant for credit unions, is a vibrant financial services firm. We are looking for a talented, motivated writer to add to our growing Callahan Media team. Callahan Media creates a variety of content for online audiences and print publication subscribers throughout the credit union world. We have recently completed a brand relaunch and comprehensive restructuring of our website, CreditUnions.com.
Position Summary
We are looking for a creative, driven individual to help us share stories from the credit union community. This writer is responsible for generating actionable content across a variety of media platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop a professional voice in the growing financial services industry. Don’t worry if you don’t have a pre-existing understanding of the credit union community – we can get you up to speed.
Functions & Responsibilities
• Write informative, accurate, and engaging weekly web features • Pitch and develop multiple magazine-style articles for a feature well in our quarterly print journal • Delve beyond surface-level reporting to develop actionable case studies, highlighting background, specific topic, results & data, lessons learned, and follow-up action for readers • Contribute attention-grabbing headlines, promos, sidebars, call-outs, and additional “points of interest” across both print and online platforms • Follow up leads and assignments from multiple sources • Collaborate with analysts, designers, and other writers/researchers to identify photos, charts/graphs, web links, and videos to complement content • Collaborate with video producer to create multimedia / videographic content for our website • Travel (~10-15%) to interview subjects and produce print / web content • Copyedit and proofread content for grammar, spelling, style, and sense, and then coordinating with other writers to resolve queries and suggest edits
Requirements
• Demonstrated use of writing in AP style • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism necessary; advanced Journalism degrees preferred. • 3 years of professional, post-graduate writing experience. Specifically, magazine or publishing experience and/or financial & business clips a plus. • Ability to interact with C-Level professionals in the financial services community • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Meticulous attention to detail • Deadline driven • Self-starting problem solver who is willing to roll up their sleeves to find a solution • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects and overlapping deadlines • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and cross-departmentally
