Job Requirements The Deputy Editor manages day-to-day operations of Celebuzz’s team of Los Angeles-based journalists and content producers, as well as helping to coordinate resources and logistics in our East Coast newsroom.

He/She generates original news leads/articles through original sources and research; Leads the news team in creating well-written and deeply contextualized articles; assigns stories, provides guidance and approves work before posting on the website.

Incumbent selects, writes and edits news stories for website that is of interest to our audience and meets the editorial standards, as directed by the Editor in Chief.

The Deputy Editor also will conceive and direct web-exclusive content that enhances our brand as a leading destination for entertainment news online.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Generate original news content/articles in entertainment journalism with original sources and deep research.
• Demonstrate leadership ability to organize and motivate large teams.
• Demonstrate initiative in thinking of storytelling elements, by constantly suggesting fresh ideas and approaches to improve our content.
• Select, assign and edit all news stories in a timely and balanced style that reflects the highest standard, consistent with our format/style. All news, features, interviews, video interviews and photo assignments must be well organized, timely, balanced and of the highest standards.
• Ensure that all material published on the site is checked for accuracy, typos and technical errors prior to publication.
• Ensure that style and content of all materials conform to the guidelines contained in the Celebuzz Style Guide.
• Constantly monitor competitor websites and broadcasters as well as utilize online trends and analytics data to make the best analysis as to which topics will bring in new audiences.
• Maintain a knowledge of current celebrity stories.
• Master use of publishing platform, asset management system, social media products and other digital systems relevant to producing the site in the modern age.

OTHER DUTIES:
• To regularly raise the spirit of teamwork and morale by holding the highest standards and by exhibiting a strong work ethic on all projects.
• To regularly use online analytics, data and social media to monitor ongoing trends and online conversations, striving to increase traffic, engagement and impact.

Basic Requirements:
Minimum 5-plus years experience in driving entertainment content at a leading outlet; experience with both multi-platform programming and assignment desk experience preferred.

Desired Requirements:
Very strong time-management and prioritization skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships and negotiate with external clients, such as publicists and networks.
