The Onion, America’s Finest News Source, is looking for a confident, assertive, and experienced salesperson to function as a National Sales Account Executive. This position is based out of our New York office. Experience in DIGITAL media sales, coupled with an expansive knowledge of the market, is ideal if not required. Similarly, the most competitive candidates will display a strong understanding of the Onion’s unique brand and readership.

Potential candidate will be responsible for contributing to the Onion's national advertising revenue by managing all advertising sales activities with new prospects, developing agency/client relationships, preparing proposals and closing business.


Closing business!

Growing and managing existing Onion advertisers.
Building mutual benefiting relationships with media agency and client-side decision-makers.
Analyzing client objectives, preparing and presenting written advertising proposals that match client's objectives.
Coordinating with appropriate departments to ensure proper campaign delivery.
Prospecting for new business in defined competitive set.


Online and print sales experience, though not required, would be a substantial benefit.
History of developing agency and direct client.
An aggressive and thoughtful approach to selling the benefits of the Onion.
Must be results-driven, creative, aggressive and a thoughtful, organized and diligent candidate.
Good communication skills a must for both internal and external business partners.

Onion Inc. is an American multimedia news organization. It features satirical articles and reporting on international, national, and local news as well as an entertainment newspaper and website known as A.V. Club.

The Onion's articles comment on current events, both real and imagined. It parodies traditional newspaper and media features, such as editorials, man-on-the-street interviews, and stock quotes, as well as traditional newspaper layout and AP-style editorial voice. Club has its own domain, includes its own regular features, A.V. Club blogs, reader forums/comments, and presents itself as a separate entity from The Onion itself.
