Job Requirements Working as the Managing Editor of established journals in the Life Science Department of our Scientific, Technical, Medical and Scholarly business, you will be responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are received from authors and editors according to agreed schedules and specifications, preparing manuscripts for batching to production, support authors and editors in the use of submission and review software, coordinating communication between the Editorial Office, the Editorial Board, and peer reviewers, and spearheading continual quality improvement of the pre-production workflow.

Work with Production Editors and Journal Editors to establish detailed schedules and guidelines for acceptable copy
Rigorously maintain the submission and review audit trail
Run the peer review system as follows:
- Review submissions for completeness and conformance to journal style
- Collect relevant forms from contributors
- Follow up with authors and reviews as necessary
Respond to author or editors queries in a timely manner
Keep central publishing systems updated with accurate and current information

3+ years experience of handling peer-review processes/independent decision making/conflict resolution
Familiarity with and proficiency in content acquisition techniques
Knowledge of the ethical issues important in peer-review and of the financial drivers in journal publishing
Familiarity with STMS publishing
Experience with ScholarOne Manuscripts
Excellent command of the English language
Ability to work and live in the United States and to travel nationally and internationally
A broad interest in science and publishing
