WSJ Live Senior Producer
Senior Producer should have the ability to handle all editorial and many aspects of live show production. This includes deciding what stories to focus on, which experts to book for the segment (including reporters, columnists, editor and outside guests), what video to use to illustrate the story, creating rundowns, conducting pre-interview with guests, creating segments and captions lists, reviewing all graphics and video and making sure the show is published on WSJ.com, MarketWatch and other partner platforms (like Youtube, Hulu, Apple TV etc.) , navigating the direction of each segment and the program as a whole and deciding when to insert video elements and graphics during the broadcast. Candidate should also be proficient video publishing and be proactive in seeking out promotion for video segments.
Other responsibilities of the Senior Producer include working closely with other producers to assist with story development and show production as well as directors, editors and other control room staffers. He or she should be able to identify stories not just for their editorial value but also based on probable viewer interest. This effort includes being able to quickly come up with enticing segment headlines and banners, matching video segments with as many stories as possible and being aggressive about contacting editors when opportunities are being missed. Candidate should also demonstrate the ability to develop strong relationships with reporters, columnists, editors and outside guests and be able to seek out new contributors and talent. The Senior Producer will also work closely with the Executive Producer in the development, production and launch for new live shows as well as special primetime live shows on special events or breaking news. The Senior producer will also produce taped pieces as needed.
The ability to readily respond to breaking news, excellent organizational skills, creativity, long term planning, flexibility, a good attitude, ability to give and receive constructive feedback and being a team player are critical to the position.
- Minimum of five to seven years of producing live news for television or online video.
- Experience producing tape pieces in a high pressure, deadline driven environment.
- A working knowledge of edit systems, media formats and latest technologies.
- Excellent writing skills and editorial judgment.
- Line producer and control room experience.
- Flexible schedule and ability to work long hours.
- Undergraduate degree minimum.
