Job Requirements The Bump, a subsidiary of XO Group Inc., formerly The Knot, Inc., seeks an EXPERIENCED Advertising Sales Representative to sell into our local printed guides and websites. The perfect candidate will have strong print background in local sales and be able to handle 2 distinct markets – one local and one remote.

We are looking for an Advertising Sales Representative to sell advertising space in our print and online publications to local businesses in your market. In your role as an Advertising Sales Representative, you will utilize a consultative sales approach as you maintain and grow an existing book of business and also build your pipeline to include new advertising clients.

Job Responsibilities

As an Advertising Sales Representative, your two main objectives will be to maintain and grow your existing book of business and to prospect for and add new advertising clients to your list of accounts, so your duties will be a combination of “hunting" for new prospects and “farming" existing accounts.

Your specific duties as an Advertising Sales Representative will include:
• Giving prospective clients a strong, engaging sales presentation in order to shorten the sales cycle
• Meeting and exceed all sales and performance goals on a consistent basis
• Educating potential clients on the value of advertising with The Bump
• Engaging in high-volume cold calling on a daily basis – you may receive some inbound leads via our website, but most of your business development efforts will involve sourcing prospects through cold calls
• Following up with potential clients to close sales
• Providing prospective clients with proposals for advertising packages
• Representing our company and our brand in the most positive light as you serve as the voice and face of The Bump
• Participating in company conference calls with managers, peers and corporate leadership on a variety of topics
• Filling out and submitting your daily, weekly, and monthly sales transmittal sheet
• Align weekly sales with monthly and market budgets
• Attend weekly conference calls and weekly reviews; Attends trade shows, training, and other events as required
• Making preparations for networking events such as cocktail/networking parties, trade shows and association meetings
• Going out into the field and meeting with larger customer
• Building business networks to generate referrals and leads
• Sending client account information to our Support Department for customer relationship management

As an Advertising Sales Representative, you will need to be disciplined and self-motivated with the ability to run a professional office out of your home on a full time basis, with a minimum of distractions and interruptions. You must also be very organized and persistent, with the ability to multitask as well as meet strict deadlines. It will also be vital to your role as an Advertising Sales Representative for you to be articulate and persuasive, with excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong presentation abilities. You must also be accustomed to and comfortable with being ranked on your achievement of performance goals as well as being flexible and able to easily manage change.

Specific qualifications for the Advertising Sales Representative position include:
• Experience selling online and print advertising solutions to local businesses
• Experience in consultative and high-volume sales such as Yellow-Pages or payroll companies a plus
• Experience working from home preferred
• Customer Resource Management software experience preferred
• College degree preferred
• Minimum 4 years advertising sales, 2 year outbound call experience
• Experience in the adolescent/baby industry preferred
• Valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to lift 30 pounds
• Residence in your assigned market
