Job Requirements As America's nonprofits face extraordinary challenges, The Chronicle of Philanthropy is expanding its reach to help them achieve their vital social missions.

To mark the 25th anniversary of The Chronicle, we are seeking an entrepreneurial-minded strategist who can help conduct the financial and market analysis we need to pinpoint the smartest ways for us to provide information and other tools to nonprofit professionals and social entrepreneurs.

Long considered the key independent source of news, insight, and analysis by America’s leading and most innovative nonprofits – ranging from colleges to foundations to social-service groups that work nationwide and in every community – The Chronicle has also become a powerful online community builder and provider of professional education.

Its vibrant presence on social networks – more than 66,000 Twitter followers and 55,000 on LinkedIn – and its growing Webinar series that educate hundreds of nonprofit professionals every month – offer strong building blocks for expansion.

As we seek to offer new services, you will help us rigorously analyze and test our ideas so we can decide how to bring them to the nonprofit market – and you’ll work with us to put these ideas in place. Working with The Chronicle’s publisher and business and editorial leaders, you will play a key role in driving our audience and revenue growth.

Aside from a strong background in strategy development and market analysis, you should be:

* An innovative and creative thinker who sees the big picture and can suggest the strategic steps needed to carry out an ambitious vision.

* Familiar with what's new and what's next in communications technology.

* Adept in working with businesses or nonprofits to drive them in new and different directions.

* A self-starter who can take the leading role in developing a new project or evolving existing products to serve a changing marketplace.

Your commitment and experience in serving social enterprises, plus your expertise in analyzing and carrying out new ideas that produce solid business returns, will help us continue to evolve in ways that benefit the people and organizations committed to the common good.

Candidates for this role should have an MBA or advanced degree in public policy, social entrepreneurship or nonprofit management. Bachelor's degrees in those academic areas are also ideal.

We're looking for applicants with at least 7 years’ experience in strategic planning, product management, project management or equivalent, and experience in media, communications, or nonprofit work is a plus.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume, and salary requirements to directorsearch@chronicle.com with "Director, Strategy - COP" in the subject heading. No phone calls, please.
