Job Requirements Children and youth are among the most affected by war, conflict and natural disaster, and yet these young people are extraordinarily resilient. The IRC works with children and youth, their families, communities, schools, businesses and government ministries to ensure they are safe from violence and able to develop to their fullest potential.

SCOPE OF WORK

In recent years the IRC has invested heavily in enhancing and measuring the effectiveness of its education, child protection and youth livelihoods programs, and in turn, these programs have generated information, findings and results that are of significant interest to a range of external and internal audiences. To be able to share a wide range of information about all of IRC’s programs and activities benefitting children and youth (including child health, adolescent reproductive health, education, child and youth protection, youth and livelihoods) to diverse external audiences, the IRC has created a new External Relations Manager position which will work closely with both the External Relations Department and the Child and Youth Protection and Development Technical Unit. This position will report to CYPD Director Sarah Smith with a dotted line to the External Relations Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The External Relations Manager will be expected to:
• Work with his/her supervisors to create a strategy and plan
• Identify creative ways to communicate about the IRC’s programs for children and youth; assess information needed and methods of collecting information to be used in communications
• Create and support child and youth-focused external communications for the general public, including but not limited to drafting or reviewing capacity statements or past performance text for proposals; text for website; online, print and social media posts; presentations and speeches; program or research case studies, updates or reports
• Improve internal communications about child and youth programs and activities: compile and write text to be included in the IRC staff updates and other agency-wide communications; create and implement new ways of communicating information between the technical unit and programs and among program staff
• Actively participate in both the relevant External Relations and the Child and Youth Protection and Development team meetings and activities
• Coordinate with IRC UK’s External Relations team and IRC’s advocacy team and provide communications materials for advocacy purposes
• Maintain and monitor brand integrity across all CYPD external communications
