I lead the Production department at Alexander Street Press. A quick look at the bibliographies for our products illustrates our mission of "making silent voices heard." The Production team supports our mission by ensuring that the audio, video or text content we process, index, and release supports the important research conducted by our users.
Attracted by the people, the culture, and the mission, I joined Alexander Street Press last year to shape the Production department to meet the next set of challenges. A full range of interesting and innovative ideas are being discussed today, and we need to make certain the Production staff have the right leadership, tools, processes, and direction to succeed.
I need a hands-on leader who can strengthen the team by sharing knowledge, developing staff, and identifying and implementing process or technology changes. I am looking for a team player with proven track record of effective leadership, drawing on a range of skills including the ability to set goals and take decisive action.

Capacity Planning: Forecast resourcing needs to meet objectives.
Project Management: Organize projects, keep them on budget and track to stated
Staff Management: Grow, retain, and develop team of indexers
Financial Management: Ensure assigned work is delivered within budget, identify cost
Vendor Management: negotiate SOWs, ensure vendor deliveries meet stated
Data Management Standards: Ensure staff indexing meets quality standards and the
integrity of Controlled Vocabularies is maintained.
Accurately establish a Production content release plan that meets the needs of the business and fully utilizes Production staff and resources.
Reduces costs: Establishes new effective and efficient processes and workflows to resolve long standing issues or to support new product lines or ventures.
Lead projects with high degree of visibility and communication for team members and stakeholders, ensuring on-time and on-budget completion of all key deliverables.
Ability to lead a team (i.e., strengthen the teamís skills, performance, and morale).
Ability to identify gaps in department and hire successful candidates to support organizationís goals.
Demonstrated financial stewardship: Monitor spending and identify and eliminate wasteful spending.
Cost reductions are delivered as volumes increase, without impacting quality.
Production solutions are forward thinking, reflecting new technologies/standards within the industry and maintaining our position as an innovative publisher.

Use financial information to support decision making; e.g., business case for investment to improve processes or tools.
Negotiate agreements with vendors, hold vendor accountable for meeting standards of performance.
Production tools and processes are based on best practices, ensure end-product meets customer requirements, and is optimized for cost-efficiency.
Accountable for the quality of the indexing in ASP products.
Ensure accuracy of reports (historical reporting on performance of team and forecasting.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
3+ years of proficiency in managing publication metadata to defined specifications.
3+ years of demonstrated experience using and learning new software tools.
3+ years of experience managing client and vendor relationships with proven client
Experience with library industry, databases, and electronic data feed formats.
3+ years Experience in hiring and managing a content-processing team.
Knowledge of XSLT, Java, Perl, Ruby, Python, regex or other programming languages that
aid in data manipulation is very beneficial.
Working knowledge of a variety of metadata standards (e.g. MARC, ONIX, OAI-PMH,
MODS, XML, Dublin Core, AACR2/RDA, etc.), as well as understanding of controlled
vocabularies, thesauri, and taxonomies.
Client-oriented work ethic and ability to foster a sense of teamwork across all members
of the team.
Ability to work effectively across functional groups to meet aggressive schedules.
Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate team members.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
