Job Requirements Job Description:

Highly experienced manager with strong hands-on background in agile software development practices, e-commerce and user-facing interactive applications, as well as advanced technologies, including Java EE, PHP, relational and NoSQL databases, and Web architecture required to join the New York Times team to lead development of next generation Customer Service applications. New York Times introduced paid subscriptions in 2011 and the project has since generated over 600,000 paid subscriptions. The role would require the candidate to build and lead a team of developers. The team would analyze, design, and develop a new flexible Customer service application. The new application would have to be implemented first to work with existing e-commerce systems and transition to the new e-commerce platform as it becomes available. The new Customer Service application is expected to support evolving business requirements. The implementation environment is Java EE, PHP, and Linux. Job location is at The New York Times offices in New York City.


- Strong Java and PHP
- Strong relational database background (Oracle, MySQL or SQL server)
- NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra)
- Web Services,
- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Experience with billing, accounting and financial systems
- Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering (Bachelorís or above)
- Search background a plus
- Experience with Agile development
- Experience with building and leading engineering teams
- Strong communication skills.
