Job Requirements Job Summary:
The Communications and Media Generalist assists the Director of Communications by providing backup to the Director as needed, coordinating and overseeing Communications Department projects, executing day-to-day tasks of the office, with a primary focus on writing. This role also works with the Communications and Media Specialist to coordinate the development and delivery of printed materials, signage, and marketing materials and is the coordinator of Riverside news and information.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Public & Media Relations

Coordinate external communication efforts, including but not limited to publicity for events and announcements utilizing traditional, online and social media tools and tactics.
Coordinate preparation of press releases via internal collaboration with colleagues and Rubenstein
Provide regular and consistent outreach to print, television, radio and online media outlets.

Written, Digital and Online Media

Assemble and track Riverside news, announcements, and information flow
Publisher and writer of weekly e-mails: Weekly Newsletter, Worship this Week, News from the Council, other ad hoc e-mails
Work with ministries and programs to acquire information for bulletins and serve as printed bulletin production backup when Communications and Media Specialist is out of the office
Publisher and writer of quarterly newspaper
Oversee the development of web content, council reports and update.
Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of web site and social media.
Oversee the implementation of online communications strategies to engage key audiences.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as consultant to Riverside staff on Communications projects
Oversee Archives research & management and writing/sourcing stories “From the Archives.”
Perform interviews with congregants and articles about our history
Oversee yearly calendar
Create Signage as needed by departments – public informational and directional signs, Event Signs, External Banners, etc.
Oversee building information internal signage, in coordination with appropriate committees
Ability to behave within the Staff Vision of The Riverside Church - “Love is our Aim and Mutual Respect our Pathway.”
A familiarity with and appreciation for The Riverside Church and its many programs


Experience and Education Requirements:

Bachelors’ Degree in communications or related discipline
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications, public relations, and marketing or related discipline, preferably with a not-for-profit organization
Excellent editorial and communications skills both verbal and written
Strong organizational skills with outstanding detail orientation
Proficiency with the following tools: Adobe Creative Suite (especially including InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop) Microsoft Office, Final Cut, iTunes, Toast, Video and Audio conversion utilities, FTP software
Experience with Social Media, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.
Experience with podcasting technologies and techniques
Experience analyzing and tracking media and web metrics
Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines
Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with
