Job Requirements Summary of the Job:

The Associate Content and Web Producer is PCSB’s main content strategist, responsible for the planning and execution of PCSB’s multi-faceted content on public platforms. Working in the PCSB Communications Department and reporting to the Director of Communications, the Associate Content and Web Producer has the primary responsibility of steering PCSB’s three strands of content: Editorial; Website and Related Online and Multimedia/Social Media. The Associate Content and Web Producer works seamlessly with the Communications department, staff academic experts and other internal departments, the executive director, DC charter schools and others to meet the job’s goals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Editorial Content
• Curates PCSB Daily Media clips, a roundup of local and national charter and education coverage
• Compiles and edits blurbs for Tuesday Bulletin, a weekly e-newsletter for DC charter schools powered by the GovDelivery platform
• Maintains consistent pitching and writing schedule for PCSB Blog, interacting with charter schools and others to create content for publishing three times a week
• Contributes content to other PCSB publications, such as the PCSB Annual Report
• Helps Communications Department revise and copyedit content developed by other teams prior to print and online publication

Website and Related Online Content
• Serves as primary editor in the content management system (CMS)
• Proactively reviews web content to ensure it is updated and consistent
• Publishes, edits and updates website pages using the CMS
• Tags documents on the website, having strong familiarity with taxonomy and information architecture
• Ensures that PCSB web content is optimized for readability/usability and search engine and social media optimization
• Identifies content from external sources that has value for DC charter community and obtains permission for use on the website
• Identifies ways to repurpose existing content for different target audiences and in different media
• Creates other content as appropriate, such as but not limited to, podcasts, webcasts, video interviews
• Manages PCSB online brand and identity on external websites (dc.gov, etc.) and ensures timely updates/corrections
• Sets and monitors strategic web analytics goals and metrics for the website
• Posts relevant PCSB notices to community listserves

Multimedia/Social Media Content
• Participates in internal planning meetings, contributing ideas and information for planning purposes and dissemination via website, multimedia platforms and/or social media
• Manages Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and related accounts
• Live-tweets PCSB public board meetings and other events
• Films, produces, and edits video content for YouTube channel
• Experience working with graphic design programs like Adobe Photoshop or InDesign (preferred, but not required)

Other
• Maintains up-to-date subscriber lists for editorial content
• Manages multimedia platforms such as GovDelivery, VOCUS/Constant Contact
• Manages Communications email boxes and related accounts
• Keeps up with topics and developments of interest to the DC charter school community
• Other duties as assigned


Qualifications, Experience and Qualities
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, or related field; Master’s Degree and/or Certificate in Web Development and Design preferred
• Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to synthesize complex topics into well-constructed, flowing prose
• Previous writing experience for a variety of audiences and mediums, from profiles to PowerPoints
• Experience with AP Stylebook and/or Chicago Manual of Style
• Portfolio of current and/or previous web work required
• Experience with web content development and strategy, preferably in the education field
• Experience with HTML and open source CMS such as Wordpress and Drupal
• Proficiency in social media and measurement tools such as Twitter, Facebook, HootSuite/Tweet Deck, Google Analytics, etc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro preferred
• Ability to work independently while also being an effective, supportive, contributing team member
• Ability to handle multiple tasks/activities simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality
• Strong attention to detail, excellent time-management and organizational skills
• Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and sense of humor
• Adaptive to feedback, reflective, and focused on continuous improvement
