Job Requirements Job Description:

Manage a team of 4-6 analysts with expertise in web analytics and data mining for The New York Times.


- Deliver actionable insights about our audience that help internal clients make better decisions, meet our business goals and fulfill our journalistic mission.
- Meet regularly with stakeholders across the company to share recent insights and better understand their individual goals and analytics needs.
- Collaborate with developers, business intelligence team and CIG colleagues to implement and maintain web analytics tools.
- Provide end users with access to and training for these tools, communicating caveats and best practices when necessary.
- Produce and distribute dashboards and regular reports that track the success of company initiatives.
- Manage queue of incoming analytics requests, assigning and prioritizing projects based on importance and urgency. Ensure that project status and delivery dates are accurately communicated to stakeholders.
- Maintain relationships with key analytics vendors. Oversee contracts and budgeting and make sure they respond quickly when technical issues arise.


- 5+ years experience in web analytics, with at least three years leading a team.
- Masterís degree in an analytical field, such as computer science, mathematics, or statistics.
- Self-starter with demonstrated instinct for developing insights from data.
- Excellent communications skills, including strong writing ability and presentation and story-telling skills.
- Strong understanding of the digital media business, whether subscription or advertising based, across multiple platforms. Marketing analytics experience a plus.
- Extensive implementation experience with web analytics tools, such as WebTrends or Omniture, including deep knowledge of best practices for tagging and report creation. Experience integrating other customer data into web analytics tools.
- Able to merge data from multiple sources to deliver advanced reports and insights. Must be a power user of Excel and comfortable running SQL queries and databases. Familiarity with cloud / distributed computing approaches and other programming skills a strong plus.
- Ability to work in an environment where flexibility, creativity and fast execution are required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a top-notch sense of humor.
