| About Our Company |
Newsday is looking for a programmer journalist to join a team of developers and journalists in the newsroom. In this role, similar to a web developer position, you will be responsible for creating special projects that are primarily database-driven and displayed in an intuitive, user-friendly interface for interactive storytelling on newsday.com and other related websites. You will be involved in the web development process from start to finish; from enterprising and planning to developing, testing and deployment.
This position is responsible for: -Writing server-side and client-side code to create user interfaces that display large data sets in an easy-to-use format;
-Creating and maintaining relational databases (primarily MySQL). Examples include but are not limited to public data such as school evaluations, campaign contributions and sports statistics;
-Working with online and print editors to conceptualize and develop projects with various scopes, from same-day projects to projects that span several months;
-Incorporating new technologies and methods for displaying information, including the use of social media applications, multimedia presentations and interactive widgets and modules.
