| Job Requirements |
Looking for a senior Executive/Managing editor with prior magazine experience. The ideal candidate is creative, intelligent, substantive, social and curious about many different subjects and people. They must work with a team to bring concepts from ideas to well packaged editorial. He/she must be organized and have a strong command of language, write and edit well. Experience with digital publishing is a plus, but not a requirement. We will be taking resumes from out of town candidates willing to relocate as well as local. However, interest and knowledge in the beltway's social, political, diplomatic, philanthropic, media and night-life scenes is a must. Please send salary requirements, cover letter and resume.
Tasks: - Manage all editorial - Proof copy - Assign writers and photographers and handle invoice approval - Work with columnists - create editorial ideas, package and produce editorial - Work with PR representatives and freelance writers to weed out good leads and pitches - Correct book and make edits in InDesign - Manage and track all copy flow from issues conception to completion - Work with designer to create great-looking pages - attend/cover events
Skills: - 3-4 years of professional experience at a monthly publication - Exceptional organizational skills - Strong writing and editing skills - HTML and CMS - Familiarity with AP Style and Chicago Manual of Style - Ability to handle the pressure of tight deadlines and atypical work hours - An understanding of page layout and editorial design - Competency with Adobe InDesign, PDFs, Microsoft Office and MAC-based
