Job Requirements Working as a Literary Assistant to Two Agents.

The position affords a unique opportunity to serve as an advocate to the award-winning clients of one of the countryís top literary agencies. You will work on royalties, negotiate permissions, work with clients to facilitate their various requests as they come up, as well as screen query letters, and correspond with potential new clients. As an assistant to two agents, applicants should be interested in a variety of genres including serious and narrative non-fiction, history, politics and current affairs, literary fiction, womenís commercial fiction, womenís lifestyle, and memoirs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- Preparing checks for deposit on a daily basis and other light bookkeeping duties
- Dealing with money from foreign rights deals
- Following up on anticipated monies with publishing houses and sub-agents
- Ensuring authors are paid in a timely and accurate manner
- Routinely following up on contracts, licenses and fielding inquiries about rightsí availability
- Ensure all entries in record keeping systems are accurate and work occasionally with outside consultant
- Handle all permission requests
- Initiate, track, and follow up on Reversion of Rights requests
- Research contract details
- Drafting and keeping pending correspondence with potential clients up to date
- Manage the flow of manuscripts and queries from authors
- Follow up on email correspondence
- Occasionally read and report on manuscripts

Requirements:

- Bachelorís degree
- Experience at a literary agency or in book publishing preferable; office experience a must
- Excellent communication skills
- Superior organizational skills and very detail-oriented
- Extremely professional and articulate
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus and Outlook
- Knowledge of BAITS software a PLUS
