Job Requirements JOB PURPOSE: The Digital Content Producer will manage the daily production of content across all of NBC4 Southern California's digital platforms and will work closely with the Editorial Director of Digital Media on station initiatives and strategies.


Work closely with newsroom staff and reporters to gather, edit, write, package and publish digital news content

Report breaking news across all digital platforms - website, mobile site, apps, alerts, newsletters, social media, etc.

Coordinate with assignment desk, reporters and digital staff

Identify story coverage and delegate assignments to a team of digital editors, freelancers and contributors. Manage timeliness and quality of work assigned

Work with partners to publish and distribute content

Create multimedia content to enhance daily news coverage (i.e. video, live streams, slideshows, etc.)

Use social media to quickly and effectively report news and find news sources. Monitor user-generated content

Work with social media editor to feature day's best content

Copy edit site and ensure that quality of all content meets the highest standards

Coordinate with news producers to cross-promote on-air and online content

Identify and develop special coverage opportunities

Act as a technical resource for core and non-core web staff

Train staff on digital tools and software

Assist in troubleshooting technical issues

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or related field or equivalent experience

Minimum 4 years experience working in online news in a medium to large-sized market

Strong news judgment and news and headline writing skills required; strong proficiency in AP writing style

Experience working with a Content Management System (CMS) or web-publishing software

Strong computer skills, including proficiency in graphics software and video editing

Proficient in use of social media

Must possess basic HTML knowledge

Ability to multi-task and meet constant tight deadlines

Strong attention to detail

Experience working with newsroom software, show rundowns and scripts is a plus

Experience or familiarity working with live streams and/or encoding equipment a plus

Basic understanding and demonstration of solid editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations

Video editing skills

Experience in Los Angeles market and familiarity with Southern California audience and communities

Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels
