Job Requirements Job Description:

Director of Customer Research is a position in the Customer Insight Group which is responsible for research and analytics for all New York Times offerings, including the website, apps and newspaper. The ideal candidate is a highly strategic, results-oriented individual who will assume a leadership role in the Customer Insight Group. As the company continues to evolve from a print newspaper to a multi-channel news and information provider, the Director of Customer Research will be responsible for designing and executing innovative and actionable research to support strategic initiatives throughout the organization

Responsibilities:

- Design and implement qualitative and quantitative studies to generate actionable consumer insights to support Product, Marketing, Strategy and Advertising Sales teams
- Lead the effort in developing consumer insights to guide the Times' international growth initiatives
- Provide research-driven insights to inform new product development
- Aggressively position the NYT newspaper and nytimes.com versus competitors, and maintain The New York Times' position as a thought leader
- Partner with the Marketing team to support ongoing efforts to increase print and digital subscription sales
- Identify and implement new tools and techniques to increase the speed at which insights are generated and reported
- Collaborate with web and customer analytics, user experience research, and other insights teams to provide a holistic view of our users, readers and customers.
- Support, as needed, senior New York Times management.

Requirements:
- At least 8 years experience in advertising research, and at least 4 years experience managing a team.
- Experience in providing insights into consumers’ cross-platform use of traditional and new media channels (print, television, internet, mobile, social, tablets, etc.).
- A four-year college degree is required, with an advanced degree preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Extensive experience in public speaking and business presentations.
- Experience in web media and preferably cross-platform media companies.
- Involved in industry organizations and interest in growing leadership profile.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with clients, vendors, sales, marketing staff, writers and senior management.
- Ability to think strategically and develop creative solutions to research challenges.
- A passion for The New York Times.
- A sense of humor is essential.
