The successful candidate is a team player with excellent creative skills. This includes the ability to transform a business topic into a compelling visual, as well as proficiency in designing across media, including email, mobile, print, and Web. It also includes the ability to expertly handle projects like creating branding and a logo for a new conference or designing an ad campaign to support an event—all while maintaining brand consistency across all communications and channels. Further, the ideal candidate is highly organized and detail-oriented, able to multitask effectively and consistently meet deadlines—effectively balancing varied responsibilities and interdepartmental relationships—and has superb follow through.

The art director is responsible for overseeing the majority of the publication’s design work. This includes logos and infographics; media kit, promotional materials, and ads (digital and print); email (editorial and commercial) and website elements; design elements of special projects like awards logos and collateral; and print editions. Additionally, the art direct ensures consistent style/format within and across products and communications, collaborates with the web editor on aspects of our social presence (e.g., Pinterest), and works closely with the copy/production editor. The position reports directly to the editor-in-chief.

All candidates should have at least five years of design experience, as well as expertise in the Adobe Creative Suite. Additionally, the candidate will have experience with HTML, web design, content management systems, and Microsoft Office. Experience with project management tools is a plus.
