The National Press Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) established in 1975 to provide educational opportunities for journalists in Washington, around the U.S. and internationally.

Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will be a proven leader with a vision of journalism and journalism education in the 21st century and the skills to put that vision into action. He/she will be passionate about the values of good journalism and committed to ways of preserving and extending them. He will engage in fundraising with non-profits, foundations, corporations, individuals, and other entities, as well as traditional media organizations. She will be committed to the use of new platforms and technologies and dedicated to incorporate them into NPF activities. A familiarity with Washington-based organizations and agencies is vital.

Mission-Related
The NPF conducts conferences and events that bring together experts and journalists to speak candidly about contemporary issues and exchange knowledge and ideas. The president is responsible for all professional development programs for journalists. These include multi-day seminars, small group discussions, larger classroom exercises, webinars and briefings. The president encourages exploring new ways to use digital platforms, including the Foundationís website and other platforms, to conduct programs and transmit information nationally and internationally. The president works closely with the volunteer chairman, vice chairman and the members of the board of directors to define and fulfill the NPF's evolving mission.

Administrative
The president is responsible for conducting educational programs, raising funds and managing the staff. This includes managing the annual awards dinner, which raises a significant amount of revenue and is attended by 900-1,000 people. The president supervises the paid staff of five, a rotating staff of interns, and project-oriented consultants. He or she thinks dynamically about the changing nature of journalism and adjusts the foundationís approaches as necessary, without compromising its journalism values. The president manages expenditures associated with the foundationís day-to-day operations. Domestic and international travel may be required.

Previous experience
The successful candidate will have both journalism and management experience. The president is experienced in working with boards of directors, and will successfully work with the NPF board, made up of senior journalists and executives. The ability to manage a budget and comfort in raising funds are essential. The president is the leader of a team comprising the board of directors, other volunteers and paid staff. The president must be entrepreneurial and opportunistic in seeking funds, partnerships, and executing a vision of the National Press Foundation in the 21st century.
