Stars and Stripes, the independent daily newspaper devoted to covering the U.S. military, is seeking an intrepid journalist to report the news that emanates from the halls of power in Washington and reverberates to the Spartan outposts of the Middle East.

We seek one curious and hungry Capitol Hill reporter prepared to break news on top-level decisions that shape the military's international responsibilities and dig deeper for the stories that shape the private lives of servicemembers and their families. We want a multimedia, social media and Web-savvy journalist who is as comfortable tweeting and blogging as writing breaking news on deadline and composing detailed analyses and features.

If you're looking to make a name for yourself covering some of the most important stories of our time, we offer the chance to join a scrappy, award-winning newspaper (in 2009 we won a Polk and a National Headliner Award) that has become a must-read for anyone interested in America's military.

The position is based in Washington and the salary range is $40,000 to $55,000, plus a full package of federal benefits. Preferred candidates will have at least three years' reporting and writing experience working for a newspaper or news website and a college degree in journalism or a related field.

To apply, submit a cover letter, resume and up to five examples of your work at:
