Job Requirements Prevention is currently seeking a Beauty & Lifestyle Director for Prevention and Prevention.com to lead the development of Prevention's beauty and healthy lifestyle coverage for women 40+. The Beauty & Lifestyle Director will be responsible for overseeing, planning, and top editing 2-4 beauty news pages and columns every month, as well as assigning and editing one mind-body/lifestyle feature story per issue. This key player will also work closely with the executive editors in the creative execution of the magazine and website, from story pitches and packaging to staff mentorship and idea refinement.

In this role, the Beauty & Lifestyle Director will edit everything from short, newsy, highly visual front of book items, to practical columns, to long features on topics that include are not limited to skin care, hair care, cosmetics, anti-aging treatments, and discoveries in the beauty industry that affect women 40+. The work will be for the print publication, website, tablet editions and other digital platforms as needed.

A passion for healthy living and beauty are a must, as well as extensive contacts and experience within the beauty industry. This will be a highly visible role with frequent appearances on TV and speaking engagements within the industry. Proven experience editing and identifying emerging talent are also critical.

This position is located in New York, and reports to the Executive Editor.


Responsibilities include:

- Scouring the world of beauty and healthy living for fresh story ideas, products and trends for the magazine, website and digital editions

- Networking within the beauty and healthy living industry to stay on top of trends, discoveries, and new products

-Pitching, assigning and editing mind-body/lifestyle features for the magazine, website and digital editions
-Top editing front of book beauty and product pages, as well as lifestyle columns and features as needed for the magazine

-Managing, coaching and mentoring beauty editor, as well as other junior editors as needed

- Appearing on TV and other outlets to promote Prevention content, announce award winners and engage readers in Prevention

-Executing, along with beauty editor, Prevention's annual beauty awards

-Collaborating closely with photo and design departments on layouts, story development etc.
-Working with digital team to enhance beauty and lifestyle features on Prevention.com

-Contributing general story ideas, packages and editorial franchises as needed

-Being a vocal and leading voice at creative brainstorming meetings for areas that include beauty and lifestyle, as well as other areas of the magazine


Qualifications
-Minimum of 6 to 10 years of assigning and editing beauty and healthy lifestyle for a top magazine
-Demonstrated skill in developing and publishing high-quality practical personal service journalism

- Media experience with proven ability to appear/present well on TV
-Demonstrable, passionate interest in the world of beauty and healthy lifestyle
-Excellent reputation in the beauty community
-Ability to produce superior work ahead of time and on budget
