Role Purpose NBC News is looking to recruit an experienced Political Editor for its English-language, Hispanic-focused website NBCLatino.com to work at the heart of the editorial team updating the national site covering political stories and working with a group of political contributors, all within tight deadlines. Responsibilities

* Write daily stories on politics for NBCLatino.com in a timely manner using strong editorial judgment.

* Work with the sites Managing Editor to coordinate content produced by the sites political contributors.

* Ensure the political vertical of NBCLatino.com is up-to-date and maintain a futures calendar of political events for coverage.

* Add value and enhance NBCLatino.com news coverage by incorporating video, story links, slideshows, graphics etc.

* Remain in close communication with the sites Managing Editor to ensure that NBCLatino.com has a consistent editorial presence across all NBC News platforms

* Help, where necessary, with the clipping of video content for NBCLatino.com

* Think creatively about the development of NBCLatino.com.



Basic Qualifications

* Understand the editorial mission of NBCLatino.com

* In-depth knowledge of political content and subject material covered on NBCLatino.com

* Strong interest in politics and the Hispanic population of the U.S.

* Proven ability to effectively use social media to distribute content

* Understanding of how to search for information on databases, including campaign finance reports.

* Excellent news instincts with the ability to react decisively to breaking news

* Strong copy-editing skills under tight deadlines, especially the ability to spot mistakes, errors and typos

* Ability to multi-task and remain calm in a fast-paced news environment

* Excellent verbal communication skills, coupled with strong research and succinct writing skills.

* Demonstrated self-starter, with the confidence to make decisions quickly in a fast paced news environment.

* Demonstrated understanding of internet technologies, web design and production environments, video editing and video asset management tools

* Fluency in English to native standard Eligibility Requirements

* Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice

* Must be willing to take drug test and submit to a background investigation

* Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

* Must be 18 years or older

* Experience of working in content management systems

* Experience of working for a leading wire service or news publisher

* Ability to speak Spanish would be an advantage

* Ideally will be based in Washington.
