Job Requirements The Angie's List Newsroom is looking for a Digital Managing Editor to oversee the people and processes responsible for creating remarkable digital content that will engage visitors, drive traffic to the Angie's List website, develop and oversee content for our mobile platforms (tablet/smartphone apps), spur member conversions, elevate the Angie's List brand and grow our reputation as award-winning multimedia storytellers.

The successful candidate for this new leadership position must have at least 5 years of digital journalism and management experience, as well as an impressive resume that includes managing Homepage, Email, Database, Video, Mobile and Web channel editors. He/she must also have demonstrated experience in collaborating successfully with content analysts, and social media and audience development managers and utilizing their talents and recommendations to expand the success of digital platforms, both web and mobile. Exceptional editing and leadership skills are a must as is a keen understanding of what makes digital content remarkable, sticky and good for SEO.

The job also requires the ability to focus under fast-paced pressure, and the capacity for managing multiple tasks and projects at once. Great communication skills, attention to detail, and a sense of humor are all essential. Experience developing and working with Drupal and HTML are a must as well.

The Digital Managing Editor will work closely and collaboratively with Managing Editors for Print and Content Creation as well as the Media Design Director and Newsroom Operations Director. He/she will report to the Newsroom Director, who reports to the VP of Product.

Key responsibilities include:

Oversee people and processes involved with creating proprietary, compelling storytelling content, including text, video and interactive across the site, mobile (tablet and smartphone).
Develop and execute on a plan for mobile content.
Utilize a numbers-focused approach to guide digital content strategy and grow website engagement and audience.
Follow best practices for SEO and social media.
Develop Angie's List lifestyle and hard news content based on audience demand and search data.
Plan, develop and coordinate online, multimedia coverage with web channel editors.
Manage the content calendar for the site.
Ensure quantity of output meets SEO needs while maintaining top standards for quality.
Edit posts and features each day.
Plan and execute on special web projects.
Distribute the content across the web and grow the audience.
Work collaboratively with audience development team (social, analysts, online partnerships) to ensure the success of the digital platforms (web and mobile) and maximize reach, visibility, traffic and sales.
Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years in a digital role for a leading digital news publisher or website.
A minimum of 5 years in a management role.
Expertise with digital publishing practices, specifically Drupal, with a focus on digital-first storytelling, photo galleries, video embeds, and packaging of related editorial in a variety of formats for web and mobile.
An exceptional journalistic background, including writing and editing for both legacy, new and social media.
Ability to work in Indianapolis, home of Angie's List and the Angie's List Newsroom.
