Job Requirements SAGE Publications, one of the world’s leading independent publishers of higher education academic content for classroom and library use has an exceptional opening for a field based District Sales Manager in our College Books Sales Department. This position will be based in the South Eastern US and will consist of territories from DC through Georgia. There is a small personal territory consisting of schools in the DC area. This position requires weekly overnight travel (30-40%) during key selling periods in addition to regular trips to the home office in California.

District Sales Manager is responsible for driving the sales of our textbooks and digital products in an assigned district through via in-person and telephone based selling techniques. DSM will works in a direct managerial capacity for 4 territory sales representatives in addition to managing a modestly sized personal territory. Further the DSM provides additional support to the department to achieve overall sales goal growth targets. Key responsibilities include driving sales in district and personal territory by identifying prospects, calling upon decision makers about course needs, presenting text alternatives persuasively and providing accurate sales tracking and forecasting to management. DSM will be responsible for recruiting, training, managing expense budgets, coaching staff members and providing strategic sales guidance for District. We expect DSM to relay market intelligence to the home office and regularly participate in product development projects.

We are looking for individuals with the following experience and qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree with evidence of high academic achievement.
• A minimum of 6 years sales experience required
• 4+ years successful sales experience with consecutive years of goal achievement in higher education publishing.
• Consistent and proven ability to secure unit and committee adoptions within highly competitive introductory courses. Proven ability to sell digital products.
• Strong work ethic. Willing to work long hours during peak selling seasons.
• Must possess strong computer application skills and must possess strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications and PowerPoint. Must have high level of proficiency working with CRM applications with experience with analyzing sales pipeline data.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills including excellent public presentation skills and ability to demonstrate technology/print products in person or electronically via applications such as WebEx or LiveMeeting.

Preferred:
• Previous experience working in a direct supervisory of sales staff within higher education is highly preferred. Experience as a sales specialist working with a team assisting direct sales efforts will be considered in lieu of direct managerial/supervisory experience.
• Experience working a large geographic territory with significant overnight travel.


The successful candidate can expect to earn in the $90,000K+ range based on a compensation plan that includes a salary plus annual bonus.
