Job Requirements Job Description:

The New York Times is seeking a Director of Business Development to join the Strategy & Development department. The Strategy & Development group performs all strategic planning, business development, mergers and acquisitions and venture investing activities for the Company.

The Director of Business Development plays a critical role in leading and managing the New York Times’ business development activities. The Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying, developing and supporting strategic partnerships and new business opportunities that deliver value to the business by increasing digital subscriptions, driving advertising revenue and monetizing digital content.

The Director of Business Development also works closely with the senior leadership of the Strategy and Development team to help set long-term strategy.

Responsibilities:

- Help lead the company’s business development activities
- Identify new partnerships opportunities to drive subscriptions, increase advertising revenue, build audience and lower existing expenses
- Work with senior management and internal stakeholders to ensure organizational understanding and support for strategic partnerships
- Source, structure, negotiate, close and manage major strategic digital media partnerships
- Provide strategic leadership to the Product, Technology, Newsroom, Advertising, Marketing and Circulation teams to evaluate and implement partnerships
- Work closely with legal counsel and finance on contract matters

Requirements:
- 10+ years of relevant digital media experience, including 5+ years of business development and partnership experience
- Proven track record of negotiating, drafting and executing digital agreements and partnerships (from term sheet to implementation phase)
- Deep understanding of competitive and technological challenges facing the entire media industry and NYT
- Ability to think strategically about opportunities and challenges facing NYT
- Ability to mentor other team members, including direct and indirect reports and peers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization skills; ability to multi-task while also paying attention to details.
- Demonstrated success in a matrixed organization
- Passion for the NYT
- An MBA or equivalent post-graduate level training is preferred
